5 STAKEHOLDER PARTICIPATION AND TRANSPORT NEEDS ASSESSM ENT This chapter contains a discussion of the stakeholder participation process follow ed whilst developing this DITPand a list of issues identified by stakeholders during the consultation sessions. 5.1 Stakeholder Participation Structured consultation w ith stakeholdersthat w as follow ed to prepare this DITP for Sedibeng included the follow ing: • Project Steering Committee Meetings (various); • Sedibeng District Intergovernmental Workshops/Meetings (various); • Transport Workshop (October 2008). Stakeholders invited included national, provincial and local government representatives; taxi associations; bus operators; learner transport representatives/operators; metered taxi representatives; and commuter rail operators. The agenda covered the status of transport planning in Gauteng including in relation to road master planning, public transport, 2010 planning, passenger and freight rail planning; developing a vision and strategic approach for transport in Gauteng; and a description of the process to prepare the DITP for Sedibeng. • Taxi Workshops (various); and • Transport Summit (27 November 2009). The Transport Workshop (October 2008) w as follow ed by a Transport Summit w here key decisions on transport planning and strategies w ere made. Key stakeholders invited to participate at the Transport Summit included: o Sedibeng Meter Taxi Council o Gauteng Commuter Organization o Ward Committees per LocalMunicipality o Bus Companies o Top Six o SANCO o Sedibeng Taxi Council o Tourist Operators 5.2 Transport Needs Assessment TABLE 5.1 contains a list of issues with respect to transport in Sedibeng raised during consultation sessions with key role players. In addition to such consultation, the Sedibeng ITP Update for 2004 was also consulted with a view to identifying local transport problems and issues still applicable in Sedibeng.
