3.2. Integrated Hospital Information Management System
The most important benefit of an Integrated Information Management System is represented by
the efficiency improvement obtained by innovation and process optimisation.

Main Strategies should be focused on:
• Less diagnosis and treatment costs
• Less leakage
• Faster and higher quality service
• Minimum redundancy and error rate
• Less operating costs
• Long term planning and resource management
• All processes of each units realized in computer environment
• Decision Support functions to guide Hospital strategies
• Statistical research and training opportunities to practitioner
• On-line tracking of the enterprise
• Improving medical quality
All above are possible via an appropriate, measurable information gathered at the right time.
Strategies of the Hospitals have to be based on standards. An Integrated Hospital Information
Management System should:
• Organizes all workflows throughout the hospital
• Covers all medical and financial data of the patients
• Records all goods and services produced and provided
• Constitutes a reliable information base
• Has an infrastructure to create Electronic Patient Record
• Supports National and International Standards
• Allows users to reach the right patient and material information at the right time in the scope of
the institutional strategies
A Hospital Information Management System should not represent only a:
• Billing System
• Stock Control and Inventory System
• Registration System
• Archiving System
• System that prevents goods and services leakages
