J-2X — The staff element <strong>of</strong> the intelligence directorate <strong>of</strong> a joint staff that <strong>com</strong>bines and<br />

represents the principal authority for counterintelligence and human intelligence<br />

support. See also counterintelligence; human intelligence. (JP 2-01.2)<br />

jamming — See barrage jamming; electronic attack; electromagnetic jamming.<br />

joint — Connotes activities, operations, organizations, etc., in which elements <strong>of</strong> two or<br />

more <strong>Military</strong> Departments participate. (JP 1)<br />

joint acquisition review board — A joint task force or subunified <strong>com</strong>mander established<br />

board used to review and make re<strong>com</strong>mendations for controlling critical <strong>com</strong>mon-user<br />

logistic supplies and services within the joint operational area and to re<strong>com</strong>mend the<br />

proper sources <strong>of</strong> support for approved support requirements. Also called JARB. See<br />

also <strong>com</strong>batant <strong>com</strong>mander logistic procurement support board; joint contracting<br />

joint after action report — A report consisting <strong>of</strong> summary joint universal lessons learned.<br />

It describes a real world operation or training exercise and identifies significant lessons<br />

learned. Also called JAAR.<br />

joint air attack team — A <strong>com</strong>bination <strong>of</strong> attack and/or scout rotary-wing aircraft and<br />

fixed-wing close air support aircraft operating together to locate and attack highpriority<br />

targets and other targets <strong>of</strong> opportunity. The joint air attack team normally<br />

operates as a coordinated effort supported by fire support, air defense artillery, naval<br />

surface fire support, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems, electronic<br />

warfare systems, and ground maneuver forces against enemy forces. <strong>Joint</strong> terminal<br />

attack controllers may perform duties as directed by the air mission <strong>com</strong>mander in<br />

support <strong>of</strong> the ground <strong>com</strong>mander’s scheme <strong>of</strong> maneuver. Also called JAAT. See also<br />

joint air <strong>com</strong>ponent coordination element — A general term for the liaison element that<br />

serves as the direct representative <strong>of</strong> the joint force air <strong>com</strong>ponent <strong>com</strong>mander for joint<br />

air operations. Also called JACCE. (JP 3-30)<br />

joint air operations — Air operations performed with air capabilities/forces made available<br />

by <strong>com</strong>ponents in support <strong>of</strong> the joint force <strong>com</strong>mander’s operation or campaign<br />

objectives, or in support <strong>of</strong> other <strong>com</strong>ponents <strong>of</strong> the joint force. (JP 3-30)<br />

joint air operations center — A jointly staffed facility established for planning, directing,<br />

and executing joint air operations in support <strong>of</strong> the joint force <strong>com</strong>mander’s operation<br />

or campaign objectives. Also called JAOC. See also joint air operations. (JP 3-30)<br />
