joint force maritime <strong>com</strong>ponent <strong>com</strong>mander — The <strong>com</strong>mander within a unified<br />

<strong>com</strong>mand, subordinate unified <strong>com</strong>mand, or joint task force responsible to the<br />

establishing <strong>com</strong>mander for re<strong>com</strong>mending the proper employment <strong>of</strong> assigned,<br />

attached, and/or made available for tasking maritime forces and assets; planning and<br />

coordinating maritime operations; or ac<strong>com</strong>plishing such operational missions as may<br />

be assigned. Also called JFMCC. See also joint force <strong>com</strong>mander. (JP 3-0)<br />

joint force special operations <strong>com</strong>ponent <strong>com</strong>mander — The <strong>com</strong>mander within a<br />

unified <strong>com</strong>mand, subordinate unified <strong>com</strong>mand, or joint task force responsible to the<br />

establishing <strong>com</strong>mander for re<strong>com</strong>mending the proper employment <strong>of</strong> assigned,<br />

attached, and/or made available for tasking special operations forces and assets;<br />

planning and coordinating special operations; or ac<strong>com</strong>plishing such operational<br />

missions as may be assigned. Also called JFSOCC. See also joint force<br />

joint force surgeon — A general term applied to a Department <strong>of</strong> Defense medical<br />

department <strong>of</strong>ficer appointed by the joint force <strong>com</strong>mander to serve as the joint force<br />

special staff <strong>of</strong>ficer responsible for establishing, monitoring, or evaluating joint force<br />

health service support. Also called JFS. See also health service support; joint force.<br />

joint functions — Related capabilities and activities placed into six basic groups <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>com</strong>mand and control, intelligence, fires, movement and maneuver, protection, and<br />

sustainment to help joint force <strong>com</strong>manders synchronize, integrate, and direct joint<br />

operations. (JP 3-0)<br />

joint information system — Integrates incident information and public affairs into a<br />

cohesive organization designed to provide consistent, coordinated, timely information<br />

during a crisis or incident. Also called JIS. (JP 3-28)<br />

joint integrated prioritized target list — A prioritized list <strong>of</strong> targets approved and<br />

maintained by the joint force <strong>com</strong>mander. Targets and priorities are derived from the<br />

re<strong>com</strong>mendations <strong>of</strong> <strong>com</strong>ponents and other appropriate agencies, in conjunction with<br />

their proposed operations supporting the joint force <strong>com</strong>mander’s objectives and<br />

joint intelligence — Intelligence produced by elements <strong>of</strong> more than one Service <strong>of</strong> the<br />

same nation. (JP 2-0)<br />

joint intelligence architecture — A dynamic, flexible structure that consists <strong>of</strong> the Defense<br />

<strong>Joint</strong> Intelligence Operations Center, <strong>com</strong>batant <strong>com</strong>mand joint intelligence operations<br />

centers, and subordinate joint task force intelligence operations centers or joint<br />

intelligence support elements. This architecture en<strong>com</strong>passes automated data<br />

processing equipment capabilities, <strong>com</strong>munications and information requirements, and<br />

responsibilities to provide national, theater, and tactical <strong>com</strong>manders with the full range<br />
