collection manager — An individual with responsibility for the timely and efficient tasking<br />

<strong>of</strong> organic collection resources and the development <strong>of</strong> requirements for theater and<br />

national assets that could satisfy specific information needs in support <strong>of</strong> the mission.<br />

Also called CM. See also collection; collection management authority. (JP 2-01)<br />

collection operations management — The authoritative direction, scheduling, and control<br />

<strong>of</strong> specific collection operations and associated processing, exploitation, and reporting<br />

resources. Also called COM. See also collection management; collection<br />

requirements management. (JP 2-0)<br />

collection plan — A plan for collecting information from all available sources to meet<br />

intelligence requirements and for transforming those requirements into orders and<br />

requests to appropriate agencies. See also information; information requirements;<br />

intelligence process. (JP 2-01)<br />

collection planning — A continuous process that coordinates and integrates the efforts <strong>of</strong><br />

all collection units and agencies. See also collection. (JP 2-0)<br />

collection point — A point designated for the assembly <strong>of</strong> personnel casualties, stragglers,<br />

disabled materiel, salvage, etc., for further movement to collecting stations or rear<br />

installations.<br />

collection requirement — 1. An intelligence need considered in the allocation <strong>of</strong><br />

intelligence resources. Within the Department <strong>of</strong> Defense, these collection<br />

requirements fulfill the essential elements <strong>of</strong> information and other intelligence needs<br />

<strong>of</strong> a <strong>com</strong>mander, or an agency. 2. An established intelligence need, validated against<br />

the appropriate allocation <strong>of</strong> intelligence resources (as a requirement) to fulfill the<br />

essential elements <strong>of</strong> information and other intelligence needs <strong>of</strong> an intelligence<br />

consumer. (JP 2-01.2)<br />

collection requirements management — The authoritative development and control <strong>of</strong><br />

collection, processing, exploitation, and/or reporting requirements that normally result in<br />

either the direct tasking <strong>of</strong> assets over which the collection manager has authority, or the<br />

generation <strong>of</strong> tasking requests to collection management authorities at a higher, lower, or<br />

lateral echelon to ac<strong>com</strong>plish the collection mission. Also called CRM. See also<br />

collection resource — A collection system, platform, or capability that is not assigned or<br />

attached to a specific unit or echelon which must be requested and coordinated through<br />

the chain <strong>of</strong> <strong>com</strong>mand. See also collection management. (JP 2-01)<br />
