joint fires element — An optional staff element that provides re<strong>com</strong>mendations to the<br />

operations directorate to ac<strong>com</strong>plish fires planning and synchronization. Also called<br />

JFE. See also fire support; joint fires. (JP 3-60)<br />

joint fires observer — A trained Service member who can request, adjust, and control<br />

surface-to-surface fires, provide targeting information in support <strong>of</strong> Type 2 and 3 close<br />

air support terminal attack control, and perform autonomous terminal guidance<br />

operations. Also called JFO. (JP 3-09.3)<br />

joint fire support — <strong>Joint</strong> fires that assist air, land, maritime, and special operations forces<br />

to move, maneuver, and control territory, populations, airspace, and key waters. See<br />

also fire support; joint fires. (JP 3-0)<br />

joint flow and analysis system for transportation — System that determines the<br />

transportation feasibility <strong>of</strong> a course <strong>of</strong> action or operation plan; provides daily lift<br />

assets needed to move forces and resupply; advises logistic planners <strong>of</strong> channel and<br />

port inefficiencies; and interprets shortfalls from various flow possibilities. Also called<br />

joint force — A general term applied to a force <strong>com</strong>posed <strong>of</strong> significant elements, assigned<br />

or attached, <strong>of</strong> two or more <strong>Military</strong> Departments operating under a single joint force<br />

<strong>com</strong>mander. See also joint force <strong>com</strong>mander. (JP 3-0)<br />

joint force air <strong>com</strong>ponent <strong>com</strong>mander — The <strong>com</strong>mander within a unified <strong>com</strong>mand,<br />

subordinate unified <strong>com</strong>mand, or joint task force responsible to the establishing<br />

<strong>com</strong>mander for re<strong>com</strong>mending the proper employment <strong>of</strong> assigned, attached, and/or<br />

made available for tasking air forces; planning and coordinating air operations; or<br />

ac<strong>com</strong>plishing such operational missions as may be assigned. Also called JFACC.<br />

joint force chaplain — The military chaplain designated by the joint force <strong>com</strong>mander to<br />

serve as the senior chaplain for the joint force. Also called the JFCH. (JP 1-05)<br />

joint force <strong>com</strong>mander — A general term applied to a <strong>com</strong>batant <strong>com</strong>mander, subunified<br />

<strong>com</strong>mander, or joint task force <strong>com</strong>mander authorized to exercise <strong>com</strong>batant <strong>com</strong>mand<br />

(<strong>com</strong>mand authority) or operational control over a joint force. Also called JFC. See<br />

joint force land <strong>com</strong>ponent <strong>com</strong>mander — The <strong>com</strong>mander within a unified <strong>com</strong>mand,<br />

subordinate unified <strong>com</strong>mand, or joint task force responsible to the establishing<br />

<strong>com</strong>mander for re<strong>com</strong>mending the proper employment <strong>of</strong> assigned, attached, and/or<br />

made available for tasking land forces; planning and coordinating land operations; or<br />

ac<strong>com</strong>plishing such operational missions as may be assigned. Also called JFLCC.<br />
