joint operation planning — Planning activities associated with joint military operations by<br />

<strong>com</strong>batant <strong>com</strong>manders and their subordinate joint force <strong>com</strong>manders in response to<br />

<strong>Joint</strong> Operation Planning and Execution System — An Adaptive Planning and<br />

Execution system technology. Also called JOPES. See also joint operation<br />

planning; joint operations; level <strong>of</strong> detail. (JP 5-0)<br />

joint operation planning process — An orderly, analytical process that consists <strong>of</strong> a<br />

logical set <strong>of</strong> steps to analyze a mission, select the best course <strong>of</strong> action, and produce a<br />

joint operation plan or order. Also called JOPP. See also joint operation planning;<br />

<strong>Joint</strong> Operation Planning and Execution System. (JP 5-0)<br />

joint operations — A general term to describe military actions conducted by joint forces<br />

and those Service forces employed in specified <strong>com</strong>mand relationships with each other,<br />

which <strong>of</strong> themselves, do not establish joint forces. (JP 3-0)<br />

joint operations area — An area <strong>of</strong> land, sea, and airspace, defined by a geographic<br />

<strong>com</strong>batant <strong>com</strong>mander or subordinate unified <strong>com</strong>mander, in which a joint force<br />

<strong>com</strong>mander (normally a joint task force <strong>com</strong>mander) conducts military operations to<br />

ac<strong>com</strong>plish a specific mission. Also called JOA. See also area <strong>of</strong> responsibility;<br />

joint operations area forecast — The <strong>of</strong>ficial baseline meteorological and oceanographic<br />

forecast for operational planning and mission execution within the joint operations area.<br />

Also called JOAF. (JP 3-59)<br />

joint operations center — A jointly manned facility <strong>of</strong> a joint force <strong>com</strong>mander’s<br />

headquarters established for planning, monitoring, and guiding the execution <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>com</strong>mander’s decisions. Also called JOC.<br />

joint patient movement requirements center — A joint activity established to coordinate<br />

the joint patient movement requirements function for a joint task force operating within<br />

a unified <strong>com</strong>mand area <strong>of</strong> responsibility. It coordinates with the theater patient<br />

movement requirements center for intratheater patient movement and the Global<br />

Patient Movement Requirements Center for intertheater patient movement. Also called<br />

joint patient movement team — Teams <strong>com</strong>prised <strong>of</strong> personnel trained in medical<br />

regulating and movement procedures. These teams can supplement a global, theater, or<br />

joint patient movement requirements center staff. <strong>Joint</strong> patient movement teams are<br />

under the operational control <strong>of</strong> the Global Patient Movement Requirements Center<br />

until attached to a theater/joint patient movement requirements center or forward<br />
