counterintelligence operations — Proactive activities designed to identify, exploit,<br />

neutralize, or deter foreign intelligence collection and terrorist activities directed against<br />

the United States. See also counterintelligence; operation. (JP 2-01.2)<br />

counterintelligence production — The process <strong>of</strong> analyzing all-source information<br />

concerning espionage or other multidiscipline intelligence collection threats, sabotage,<br />

terrorism, and other related threats to US military <strong>com</strong>manders, the Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Defense, and the US Intelligence Community and developing it into a final product that<br />

is disseminated. Counterintelligence production is used in formulating security policy,<br />

plans, and operations. See also counterintelligence. (JP 2-01.2)<br />

counterintelligence support — Conducting counterintelligence activities to protect against<br />

espionage and other foreign intelligence activities, sabotage, international terrorist<br />

activities, or assassinations conducted for or on behalf <strong>of</strong> foreign powers, organizations,<br />

or persons. See also counterintelligence. (JP 2-01.2)<br />

countermeasures — That form <strong>of</strong> military science that, by the employment <strong>of</strong> devices<br />

and/or techniques, has as its objective the impairment <strong>of</strong> the operational effectiveness<br />

<strong>of</strong> enemy activity. See also electronic warfare.<br />

countermobility operations — The construction <strong>of</strong> obstacles and emplacement <strong>of</strong><br />

minefields to delay, disrupt, and destroy the enemy by reinforcement <strong>of</strong> the terrain. See<br />

counternarcotics — See counterdrug. (JP 3-07.4)<br />

counterproliferation — Those actions taken to defeat the threat and/or use <strong>of</strong> weapons <strong>of</strong><br />

mass destruction against the United States, our forces, friends, allies, and partners.<br />

counterreconnaissance — All measures taken to prevent hostile observation <strong>of</strong> a force,<br />

area, or place.<br />

countersign — (*) A secret challenge and its reply.<br />

countersurveillance — All measures, active or passive, taken to counteract hostile<br />

surveillance. See also surveillance. (JP 3-07.2)<br />

counterterrorism — Actions taken directly against terrorist networks and indirectly to<br />

influence and render global and regional environments inhospitable to terrorist<br />

country team — The senior, in-country, US coordinating and supervising body, headed by<br />
