<strong>com</strong>puter security — The protection resulting from all measures to deny unauthorized<br />

access and exploitation <strong>of</strong> friendly <strong>com</strong>puter systems. Also called COMPUSEC. See<br />

<strong>com</strong>puter simulation — See configuration management; validation; verification.<br />

concept <strong>of</strong> fires — A verbal or graphic statement that clearly and concisely expresses how<br />

lethal and nonlethal fires will be synchronized and integrated to support the<br />

<strong>com</strong>mander’s operational objectives. (JP 3-09)<br />

concept <strong>of</strong> intelligence operations — A verbal or graphic statement, in broad outline, <strong>of</strong> an<br />

intelligence directorate’s assumptions or intent in regard to intelligence support <strong>of</strong> an<br />

operation or series <strong>of</strong> operations. The concept <strong>of</strong> intelligence operations, which<br />

supports the <strong>com</strong>mander’s concept <strong>of</strong> operations, is contained in the intelligence annex<br />

<strong>of</strong> operation plans. The concept <strong>of</strong> intelligence operations is designed to give an overall<br />

picture <strong>of</strong> intelligence support for joint operations. It is included primarily for<br />

additional clarity <strong>of</strong> purpose. See also concept <strong>of</strong> operations. (JP 2-0)<br />

concept <strong>of</strong> logistic support — A verbal or graphic statement, in a broad outline, <strong>of</strong> how a<br />

<strong>com</strong>mander intends to support and integrate with a concept <strong>of</strong> operations in an<br />

operation or campaign. (JP 4-0)<br />

concept <strong>of</strong> operations — A verbal or graphic statement that clearly and concisely expresses<br />

what the joint force <strong>com</strong>mander intends to ac<strong>com</strong>plish and how it will be done using<br />

available resources. Also called CONOPS. (JP 5-0)<br />

concept plan — In the context <strong>of</strong> joint operation planning level 3 planning detail, an<br />

operation plan in an abbreviated format that may require considerable expansion or<br />

alteration to convert it into a <strong>com</strong>plete operation plan or operation order. Also called<br />

CONPLAN. See also operation plan. (JP 5-0)<br />

condition — 1. Those variables <strong>of</strong> an operational environment or situation in which a unit,<br />

system, or individual is expected to operate and may affect performance. 2. A physical<br />

or behavioral state <strong>of</strong> a system that is required for the achievement <strong>of</strong> an objective. See<br />

also joint mission-essential tasks. (JP 3-0)<br />

configuration management — A discipline applying technical and administrative direction<br />

and surveillance to: (1) identify and document the functional and physical<br />

characteristics <strong>of</strong> a configuration item; (2) control changes to those characteristics; and<br />

(3) record and report changes to processing and implementation status. (JP 6-0)<br />
