<strong>com</strong>mon operational picture — A single identical display <strong>of</strong> relevant information shared<br />

by more than one <strong>com</strong>mand that facilitates collaborative planning and assists all<br />

echelons to achieve situational awareness. Also called COP. (JP 3-0)<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon servicing — Functions performed by one Service in support <strong>of</strong> another for which<br />

reimbursement is not required. See also servicing. (JP 3-34)<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon supplies — Those supplies <strong>com</strong>mon to two or more Services.<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon tactical picture — An accurate and <strong>com</strong>plete display <strong>of</strong> relevant tactical data that<br />

integrates tactical information from the multi-tactical data link network, ground<br />

network, intelligence network, and sensor networks. Also called CTP. (JP 3-01)<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon use — Services, materiel, or facilities provided by a Department <strong>of</strong> Defense<br />

agency or a <strong>Military</strong> Department on a <strong>com</strong>mon basis for two or more Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Defense agencies, elements, or other organizations as directed.<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon-use container — Any Department <strong>of</strong> Defense-owned, -leased, or -controlled 20-<br />

or 40-foot International Organization for Standardization container managed by US<br />

Transportation Command as an element <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Defense <strong>com</strong>mon-use<br />

container system. See also <strong>com</strong>ponent- owned container; Service-unique container.<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon-user airlift service — The airlift service provided on a <strong>com</strong>mon basis for all<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Defense agencies and, as authorized, for other agencies <strong>of</strong> the US<br />

Government. (JP 3-17)<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon-user item — An item <strong>of</strong> an interchangeable nature which is in <strong>com</strong>mon use by<br />

two or more nations or Services <strong>of</strong> a nation. (JP 4-07)<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon-user logistics — Materiel or service support shared with or provided by two or<br />

more Services, Department <strong>of</strong> Defense agencies, or multinational partners to another<br />

Service, Department <strong>of</strong> Defense agency, non-Department <strong>of</strong> Defense agency, and/or<br />

multinational partner in an operation. Common-user logistics is usually restricted to a<br />

particular type <strong>of</strong> supply and/or service and may be further restricted to specific unit(s)<br />

or types <strong>of</strong> units, specific times, missions, and/or geographic areas. Also called CUL.<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon-user military land transportation — Point-to-point land transportation service<br />

operated by a single Service for <strong>com</strong>mon use by two or more Services.<br />

<strong>com</strong>mon-user network — A system <strong>of</strong> circuits or channels allocated to furnish<br />

<strong>com</strong>munication paths between switching centers to provide <strong>com</strong>munication service on<br />

a <strong>com</strong>mon basis to all connected stations or subscribers. It is sometimes described as a<br />

general purpose network.<br />
