4.5.4.5.4.3 Griding and Tiling
The Level-1C data, systematically ortho-rectified, spatially registered and geocoded in UTM
projected space will be divided in tiles steadily mapped into a fixed global reference system,
embedding the Level-1C multi-temporal spatial registration features (cf. previous paragraph).
A tile sizing of 100km x 100km was chosen as a good compromise adapted to data selection
granularity and transport. The tiling concept is illustrated on Figure 4-27 showing the standard
6º longitude x 8º latitude UTM zones divided into 100km x 100km tiles.
The tiles will be generated during the resampling process on all intersections of the image
footprint with the tiled reference system. This process is illustrated on Figure 4-28. Small
overlaps across tiles will be generated at the boundaries of the UTM zones as naturally
implied by the UTM projection space.
The downstream product reconstruction mechanisms will allow the aggregation of several
tiles of the same orbit into a single product as explained in section 4.4.
