○ EU directives on privacy (Regulation EC No 45/2001) and EU Directive on data<br />

retention [COM(2005)_438 final)]<br />

○ Common best practice standards and guidelines such as ISO 27001 and CiS<br />

benchmarks 3 .<br />

In addition, <strong>Sentinel</strong>-2 products shall be protected by the Terms & Conditions signed with the<br />

end users during registration.<br />

According to this, the security needs (in terms of confidentiality, integrity and availability) for<br />

each information category will be identified and proper access control means and access<br />

rights will be implemented in order to preserve these needs.<br />

In particular end users authentication and authorization functions to request and access to the<br />

<strong>Sentinel</strong>-2 products will be delegated to the CDS for GSPs and to the MMUS for other Users<br />

(see sections 4.10.1.1, 4.10.1.2).<br />

No need for a formal security classification, as defined in the EU Council regulations<br />

(2001/264/EC), the EU commission decision (2001/844/EC,) and the <strong>ESA</strong> Security<br />

regulations, has been defined up to now, and no such requirements have been expressed up<br />

to now by the EU Commission (TBC).<br />

No need for clearance has been identified up to now, either.<br />

4.7.2 NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE<br />

The <strong>PDGS</strong> network infrastructure will provide connectivity services to the <strong>Sentinel</strong>-2 <strong>PDGS</strong><br />

centres and users and will support the following communications:<br />

○ Payload Data Ground Segment network connectivity;<br />

○ Electronic circulation of satellite data, mainly from the satellite acquisition stations to<br />

the specialized processing and archiving centres;<br />

○ Transfer of planning and M&C data between the <strong>PDGS</strong> centres;<br />

○ Electronic circulation of auxiliary data, mainly from the external providers to the<br />

centres;<br />

○ Data exchanges with the FOS;<br />

○ User access to the products catalogues for consulting and ordering;<br />

○ <strong>Sentinel</strong>-2 data dissemination to scientific and commercial users;<br />

○ Operators access to <strong>PDGS</strong> systems for operation and maintenance;<br />

○ Data communications internal to the different centres and facilities;<br />

The <strong>PDGS</strong> network will offer functions and services inspired from <strong>ESA</strong>’s principles and<br />

requirements described in [RD-20], [RD-21], and [RD-22].<br />
