4.4.4 PRODUCT QUALITY
User needs in terms of product quality derive from a set of requirements expressed in
Sentinel-2 MRD [AD-01]. In order to meet these data quality standards and to ensure data
integrity, the measurement system (including both space and ground sub-systems) shall be
calibrated and the resulting products submitted to a Quality Control (QC).
The following paragraphs present the main quality requirements applicable to the Level-1C
(S2MSI1C) and prototype Level-2A (S2MSI2Ap) products.
To meet the defined quality requirements, the Calibration and Validation (Cal/Val) plan
defined in section 4.5.4.10 will systematically be applied. In complement, the operational
monitoring of the resulting product-quality will be ensured through well-defined QC
procedures.
Products will be annotated with Quality Indicators (QI), which provide to the user the required
information to assess the suitability of the data for a particular use/application. The Sentinel-2
Product Definition Document [RD-07] details the QI concept and provides a complete list of
the QIs provided with each product.
4.4.4.1 Level-1C Quality Baseline
Concerning the radiometry requirements, Table 3-2 shows the spectral bands characteristics
and the required Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) for the reference radiances (L ref ) defined for the
mission. Other radiometric image quality requirements are presented in Table 4-5.
