GSC Sentinel-2 PDGS OCD Issue 1 Revision 2 (draft) - 25.07.2010 GMES-GSEG-EOPG-TN-09-0008 page 324 of 350 6.20 Network Communication Operations 6.20.1 PRINCIPLES The Network Communication operations will be responsible for the overall operations of the digital network infrastructure of the PDGS (including the LAN, DCN, DDN, and FCN functions), ensuring that all available network resources required for the PDGS nominal operations are available, ready and running under expected conditions. In particular it will allow monitoring of ongoing operations, system status, load and performance of each site, providing real-time and historical monitoring tools. The network operations will rely on a centralized and integrated Network service support consisting of: ○ Service desk ○ Network monitoring ○ Problem resolution ○ Change management and implementation ○ Maintenance ○ Permanent on-call operational service. 6.20.2 OPERATION CONSTRAINTS The following operation constraints are identified: ○ The network operations will use as a reference model the current centralised service and procedures described in [RD-25]; ○ In case the operations of these functions are split and allocated to different providers the same functions will be delivered by each provider and maximum synergy among these and between these and the ones of the M&C (cf. section 6.17) shall be achieved 6.20.3 OPERATION SCENARIOS The operations scenarios are reused from [RD-25] (ODAD-NS service description) The Data Communications Operation function will provide also the proper functional and procedural interface to the Monitoring & Control Operations. In details: - the network operations will provide access to monitoring and network statistics of the Sentinel-2 PDGS network - an operator will be available for support to the Sentinel-2 PDGS during normal working hours/days (Mon-Fri, 8-18, TBC) - Specific contact point and details will be provided to the Sentinel-2 operations team for monitoring and troubleshooting purposes. GSC Sentinel-2 PDGS OCD Issue 1 Revision 2 (draft) - 25.07.2010 GMES-GSEG-EOPG-TN-09-0008 page 325 of 350 APPENDIX-A GMES PRODUCT REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS FOR SENTINEL-2 A.1 Introduction This appendix provides a review of the identified needs of the GMES Services to be fulfilled by the Sentinel-2 provided products and outlines a rationale driving the product design in response. In this exercise, GMES needs are extrapolated from the following sources ○ The requirements expressed in the DAP-R [RD-11] when relevant to Sentinel-2 type of sensor and the understanding of the requirements of existing GSPs and ESA funded GMES Service Element (GSE) projects (as precursors of future GMES Services) currently requiring Sentinel-2 type of data; ○ The requirements expressed in the Sentinel-2 MRD [AD-01]; ○ The GMES Data Policy; ○ The extrapolation of the above requirements in view of the Sentinel-2 era, i.e. considering the specificities of the Sentinel-2 mission, the Data Policy and in particular the enhancements it will bring to the existing supply of Sentinel-2 type of data. A.2 DAP-R Analysis Logic As part of the GMES Space Component, the Earth Observation Data Access Portfolio (DAP), describes the European coordinated approach for supplying Earth Observation data to the GMES service providers. Moreover DAP provides indications concerning the data and condition under which data should be made accessible. The requirements of the DAP-R have been reviewed in view of deriving implications on the PDGS operations and design concepts to match the supply of data-products to the demand, based on the currently identified needs of the GMES Services for Sentinel-2 type of data. As it is expected that these requirements will evolve in time and will be enhanced with new National and scientific requirements, extrapolations have been made to place the DAP-R in the Sentinel-2 timeframe and according to the expected enhancements brought in by the mission compared to the present supply. The DAP-R requirements are currently expressed based on present EO missions and their respective product types in terms of semantic contents, timeliness and availability. As applied to Sentinel-2, the requirements have been filtered to cover the Sentinel-2 type of sensor (optical mission with resolution >=10 m) referred to in the DAP-R as High-Resolution (HR) sensors. The European Commission has identified a set of three Fast-track GMES core services (i.e. Land, Marine and Emergency) and two additional pilot services (Security and Atmospheric) for early operational implementation in 2008, funded under the European Commission FP7 programme.
