6.16.3.4 Second-Line Support-Desk
This scenario stands for the management of expertise user support requests routed from the
First-Line Support-Desks of ESA’s MMUS or of the CDS.
The MPA function receives expertise support requests for investigation of potential anomalies
observed by the users. Based on the support request the MPA operator possibly supported
by expert teams defines and starts an investigation including:
Registering and characterisation of the support request;
Review of the available quality control reports relevant to the investigation;
If needed, access to the related products via the MMUS data-access services and adhoc
investigation on the reported anomaly by performing specific inspections and
quality control checks.
In case the investigation leads to highlighting a new problem (e.g. on the instrument
configuration, on the PDGS configuration, on the system operations, etc) corrective actions
are triggered (e.g. mission configuration change, system anomaly reporting, etc).
The conclusions on the performed investigation are sent to back to the First-Line Support
Desk having triggered the request (MMUS or CDS Support-Desks).
6.16.3.5 Auxiliary Data Conformity Control
This scenario stands for the autonomous verification of the PDGS new auxiliary data (OGCD
and OBCD) before the official release (via the MCC function, cf. section 6.14) to the
processing centres (OGCD) and to the FOS (OBCD).
Some auxiliary data that are mandatory for the generation of Level-1 products (e.g. DEM or
the GRIs) is verified (e.g. corrupted format) to avoid problems on the processing chain.
Accordingly the MPA function performs the configured verification prior to the official release.
The MPA function receives the Auxiliary Data and performs the configured compliance
checks. If the performed checks are successful, the Auxiliary Data will be stamped as
compliant and eligible for release, otherwise the distribution will be stopped to prevent
problems on the processing chain.
In addition, the MPA function can provide specific tools to support the expert teams on the
auxiliary data verification activities (e.g. visualisation tools of the Global Reference Images -
GRIs).
Some use cases of this operation scenario are:
Inspection and verification of the Global Reference Images (GRIs): the global
reference images is consider as an external GIPP which will be gradually built through
an appropriate selection of orbits followed by a precise geometric refinement
performed on the basis of spatio-triangulation using Sentinel-2 data and an auxiliary
database of ground control points;
New DEMs version update when better accuracy available or due to heavy landscape
modifications by natural disasters;

Updates on the snow / ice cover global maps.
