GSC Sentinel-2 PDGS OCD
Issue 1 Revision 2 (draft) - 25.07.2010
GMES-GSEG-EOPG-TN-09-0008
Figure 5-2: PDGS System Control Functions
It features a main mission control loop compiling three complementary functions:
○ A Mission Configuration and Control (MCC) function in charge of defining the operation
scenario according to the HLOP and performing accurate control and coordination
within the PDGS of all derived key mission configuration data and leverages on
mission performance. It also aims at keeping a historical registry of mission
configuration baselines associating all related operational monitoring data collected
throughout the PDGS for the performance assessment activities of each baseline;
○ A Mission Planning (MPL) function in charge of applying the mission operation
scenario by performing recurrent planning of the payload and data downlink operations
through the FOS and triggering accordingly the data-reception activities at the CGS
and LGS.
○ A Mission Performance Assessment (MPA) function in charge of measuring the actual
PDGS performance and the mission overall quality with respect to the baseline, and
retrofitting as relevant the necessary configuration changes to the MCC to meet the
quality objectives. It also aims at assessing the effective end-user data usage as
measured on the data-access element.
As such, the MPA function is intended as scattered and embedded across all
functional domains, in particular in every step of the data elaboration down to the final
products themselves, for gathering the data required for the quality assessment
activities. It complementarily includes a central console compiling the high-level
performance and quality figures required for decision making.
