○ Output interface for Mission-Plan file(s) delivery to the FOS (MSI Image-Acquisition-
Plan, Downlink-Plan) through to the MCC function;
○ Output interface to the ground-stations for delivery of the pass-list for the booking of
the required downlink passes and the provision of the Acquisition-Schedule-Plan to
specify the required data-reception and front-end processing activities; done through
the MCC function via the DC function;
5.2.4.3 Mission Performance Assessment (MPA) Function
5.2.4.3.1 Function Objectives
As introduced in Section 4.5.3.2, the MPA function objective is to monitor if mission
requirements are being fulfilled by the PDGS and to trigger corrective actions in case of
anomaly. MPA covers the following four sub-functions:
o Off-line Quality Control
o Calibration and Validation
o Instrument Data and Quality Control Processors Verification
o End-to-end System Performance Monitoring
The objective of the Off-line Quality Control is to monitor if the payload and specific on-board
systems (e.g. on-board navigation solution) related products meet the quality requirements
along mission life-time.
The objective of the Calibration and Validation (Cal/Val) is to update on-board and on-ground
configuration data in order to meet product quality requirements.
The objective of the Instrument Data and Quality Control Processors Verification is to verify
the quality of the image processing and quality control processors.
The objective of the End-to-end System Performance Assessment is to detect anomalies at
system-level and provide high-level performance figures on the overall mission performance.
5.2.4.3.2 Design Drivers and Constraints
Due to the operational character of the Sentinel-2 PDGS, MPA function shall maximize the
automation of recurrent tasks. For not-automatic tasks clear interfaces with human operators
shall be defined.
The MPA Off-line Quality Control shall provide a comprehensible reporting of its findings in
order to minimize anomaly recovery periods.
MPA shall be able to manage a multi-satellite configuration (2A/2B/…).
5.2.4.3.3 Function Interfaces
MPA function has the following interfaces with other PDGS functions and external entities:
o The MPA provides to the POM (via DC function) the Off-line Quality Control reports
(daily and N-day cyclic) (including payload and platform status reports), on-demand
