Such calibration operations will be performed by an expert Cal/Val team 2 or 3 times
per year with a processing of all data acquired over typically 1 month.
For all vicarious calibration, image-acquisitions will be deterministic and pre-defined on
a yearly basis. Figure 4-30 shows typical acquisitions over the Dome-C sites which can
be commanded during austral summer over one 10-days repeat cycle.
o Inter-band calibration through the processing of sun-glint measurements. During
Phase E2, this will only be done to consolidate and monitor the calibration performed
during Phase E1. This activity will be performed on a yearly basis by an expert Cal/Val
team.
o Refocusing of the instrument using mirror temperatures. During Phase E2, this
calibration would only be performed in case of contingency and performed by an
expert Cal/Val team. Given the criticality of the calibration, a robust approval procedure
will be established including POM approval.
o Crosstalk characterisation and correction. Sentinel-2 is designed in order not to require
any crosstalk correction. In case one would be required, ground processing will
account for it and the determination of the associated parameters will be performed by
an expert Cal/Val team.
During Phase-E2, geometric calibration will mainly consist on the update of the Global
Reference Image (GRI) used by to meet multi-temporal registration requirements. Calibration
will be complemented with a set of activities to be only triggered in case of contingency, and a
validation plan to check that user requirements are being met.
