GSC Sentinel-2 PDGS OCD
Issue 1 Revision 2 (draft) - 25.07.2010
GMES-GSEG-EOPG-TN-09-0008
page 150 of 350
Operator driven inter-archive circulation will be possible to recover from contingencies or to
execute specific cross-archive circulation operations (e.g. as required for reprocessing
activities).
In complement, the above operations will provision for the operational data supply towards
potential collaborative entities operating a PDGS compatible data-access mirror centre (cf.
sections 4.2.6 and 4.8).
4.5.4.9.1 Data Archiving Operations
In the distributed PDGS context, data archiving will make use of two type of facilities:
○ Medium-term archives, designed for high performance accessibility to the distributed
dataset in short time after processing on-ground. These archives will be located either
at the ground-stations or in dedicated centres to provide on-line accessibility over a
mission time period covering typically one year of Sentinel-2 constellation data in a
rolling buffer.
○ Long-term archives, designed for long-term accessibility of the global dataset and
reliability through full redundancy.
The scattered medium-term archives will comprehensively provide:
○ Access to RT, NRT and all daily nominally acquired and processed data-products at
the ground-stations. Ground-station archives will be sized to hold about one month of
recent data products from the constellation in a rolling buffer.
○ Access to data-products aged by up to one year after satellite sensing.
All systematic product collections (S2MSI0, S2MSI1A, S2MSI1B, S2MSI1C) will be
retrievable from these archives with on-line access latencies as baselined in section 4.4.6.
The long-term archives will comprehensively provide full redundant access to the global
S2HKTM, S2MSI0, S2MSI1B and S2MSI1C datasets with off-line access latencies. The
S2MSI1A collection will not be archived in the long-term.
4.5.4.9.2 Data Circulation Operations
PDGS data-circulation operations will be used to supply in a data-driven manner the mediumterm
and long-term archives from the source archives distributed in the CGS network. The
data-driven circulation rules will operate systematically on the PDIs and dictate their
systematic routing across centres according to the following granularity attributes available at
any product-level:
○ Spacecraft unit;
○ Product type;
○ Timeliness (RT, NRT or else);
○ Geo-location at product granule level;
○ Cloud-cover at product granule level;
○ Summary quality indicators set at product granule level or group of granules;
○ Specific MSI acquisition mode flags used for Cal/Val activities (cf. 4.5.4.10.2);
