It is inheriting the principles of the EDRS enhanced layout while using ground-networks (or
media shipment as trade-off) to repatriate the data acquired at polar stations to a mediumterm
centre. According to the actual X-Band CGS set-up, RT and NRT acquisitions will be
routed in priority via the OCP to EDRS enabled CGSs to take benefit of the wide multicast
coverage provided through EDRS. This will ensure that the two EDRS Ka-Band stations can
share the RT and NRT processing or provide for redundancy by simple configuration.
4.10 PDGS Services Portfolio
The portfolio of PDGS services aims at stating all high-level services the Sentinel-2 PDGS
system will offer vis-à-vis its external interfaces during operations starting at Phase-E1, using
the PDGS system capabilities defined in [RD-01].
The service requirements cascade from the PDGS specific function within the overall
Sentinel-2 system and, to a higher level, within the GSC to be guaranteed starting at Phase-
E1 and sustained in the long term throughout Phase-E2.
This chapter describes all services offered by the PDGS highlighting for each one, the scope
and characteristics, the invocation mechanism and the relevant PDGS interface applicable to
it..
4.10.1 SERVICES TO PDGS STAKEHOLDERS
This section describes all PDGS services dedicated to supplying Sentinel-2 data to the
identified data consumers, namely:
○ End-users, including GSPs, for the supply of Sentinel-2 data products through the
MMUS;
○ GSPs for the supply of Sentinel-2 products via the CDS through the CDS/DAIL I/F;
○ Local Ground Stations through the LGS commanding interface enabling the native
Sentinel-2 X-Band space-to-ground real-time data reception to any authorized LGS;
○ The FOS for the supply of HKTM data received at the PDGS;
○ The general public for the on-line publishing of Sentinel-2 true-colour images.
4.10.1.1 Sentinel-2 User Services
As introduced in section 4.5.2.2.1, the Sentinel-2 PDGS will offer a homogenous data access
to supply Sentinel-2 generated products to all authorised users via ESA’s MMUS.
Besides product access provided through a multi-mission interface, this service embeds all
necessary user-support functions such as the publishing of relevant documentation and the
management of a Support-Desk.
4.10.1.1.1 Service Users
Service users are all registered end-users entitled to access Sentinel-2 products via the
MMUS interface.
