• Organization: deals with people’s roles and responsibility and to train them in new ways of thinking,
working and communication.
• Process controls: concerns with all that is required to monitor, control and improve discrete manufacturing
process steps.
• Metrics: it is the criteria to judge the success of lean manufacturing implementation, it establishes visible,
results-based performance measures, determining targets for improvement and recognizing work teams for
process improvements.
• Logistics: it is the backbone of lean manufacturing. In case of working with minimum level of raw materials
inventory, it becomes very important to ensure on time, correct, flexible and good quality supplies. The
relations between supplier and customer take a very leading role. So, logistics concerns with the systems
and mechanisms to ensure good supplies. It defines operating rules and mechanisms for the flow of
material.
Importance of Lean Manufacturing Strategy:
Sometimes companies cannot manage the competition and are forced to lower the charges and lose profit. While
doing this, they might also lose clients so sometimes the strategies applied only lead to disaster. The most beneficial
thing companies should do when they have problems in implementing lean manufacturing. The lean manufacturing
strategy proved to be one of the greatest advantages when it comes to changing company's strategy. It is one of the
most effective ways to decrease costs and increase profit on long term. Its philosophy is called "elimination of seven
wastes.

Strategies of Implementation of Lean Manufacturing:
a) Senior Management Involvement -As for any significant process improvement project, the total commitment and
support of the most senior management is essential for implementation of lean manufacturing. Problems will almost
certainly arise during the implementation of lean production systems and those problems will likely only be solved if
the senior management is fully committed to the successful implementation of lean.
b) Start with a Partial Implementation of Lean - Some companies may initially implement only some of lean
manufacturing and gradually shift towards a more complete implementation. In a 2004, a survey of manufacturing
companies in the U.S. by Industry Week Magazine, among companies which had commenced lean manufacturing
programs, 39.1%reported implementing some aspects of lean, 55.0% reported implementing most aspects of lean and
only 5.9% reported complete implementation of lean.
Some simple first steps may include:
• Measuring and monitoring machine capacity and output.
• Creating more clearly defined production procedures.
• Implementing the 5S system for shop floor housekeeping.
• Streamlining the production layout.
