Policy on Summer Courses (for both tracks)<br />
Courses taken through <strong>Tufts</strong> Summer Session with<br />
the intention of fulfilling a degree requirement<br />
must be approved by the student’s department.<br />
Provided th<strong>at</strong> the course is required for the degree,<br />
the gradu<strong>at</strong>e school will pay the summer tuition for<br />
full-time students (courses taken in excess of the<br />
degree requirements, directed and independent<br />
studies, special topics courses, audited courses, and<br />
language coures taken to prepare for the language<br />
exam are excluded). Students who withdraw from a<br />
course or receive a grade below B- will be responsible<br />
for paying for the course. All gradu<strong>at</strong>e students<br />
must pay the $50 registr<strong>at</strong>ion fee.<br />
STUDIO Art<br />
Studio Art Courses<br />
Through a cooper<strong>at</strong>ive agreement between <strong>Tufts</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> and the School of the Museum of Fine<br />
Arts, Boston (the Museum School) students may<br />
elect courses in studio art for credit <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong>. Classes<br />
are taught both on the <strong>Tufts</strong> Campus, in studios<br />
loc<strong>at</strong>ed in Lane Hall and Jackson Gym, and <strong>at</strong> the<br />
Museum School in Boston. More than eighty<br />
studio credits are offered to <strong>Tufts</strong> students.<br />
Studio art courses taught <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s<br />
Medford campus include drawing, painting, design,<br />
calligraphy, photography, sculpture, architecture,<br />
and w<strong>at</strong>ercolor. <strong>The</strong>se courses can be found in the<br />
<strong>Tufts</strong> online <strong>Bulletin</strong>/Course Descriptions by<br />
Department under “Studio Art—Medford Cam-<br />
pus” and are labeled with the FAM course prefix.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Museum School offers expanded course<br />
offerings in the above areas, as well as ceramics,<br />
sculpture, anim<strong>at</strong>ion, video, metals, and printmaking.<br />
Courses are taught on weekdays, evenings, and<br />
S<strong>at</strong>urdays <strong>at</strong> the Museum School campus in<br />
Boston. <strong>The</strong>se courses can be found in the <strong>Tufts</strong><br />
online <strong>Bulletin</strong>/Course Descriptions by Department<br />
under “Studio Art—Museum School” and are<br />
labelled with the FAMB course prefix (credit value<br />
conversion: 2.00 SMFA credits = 0.5 <strong>Tufts</strong> credits;<br />
4.00 SMFA credits = 1.0 <strong>Tufts</strong> credits).<br />
Students must register for FAM or FAMB<br />
studio courses through the <strong>Tufts</strong> student registr<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
system.<br />

Studio Art Degree Programs<br />
<strong>The</strong>re is no studio art major <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong>, but two<br />
programs offered in cooper<strong>at</strong>ion with the School of<br />
the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston are available to<br />
students with strong prepar<strong>at</strong>ion in this area. Both<br />
require admission to the Museum School and have<br />
an academic component. One of the B.F.A. degree<br />
programs is available through the College of Special<br />
Studies; the other is the combined five-year B.F.A.<br />
and B.A. or B.S. degree program. Interested<br />

Master of Fine Arts: Studio Art<br />
<strong>The</strong> master of fine arts degree offers students<br />
concentr<strong>at</strong>ion in the visual arts. Students may<br />
concentr<strong>at</strong>e in a single medium or may work in an<br />
interdisciplinary manner, drawing on diverse studio<br />
offerings to expand upon their particular area of<br />
