opportunities. <strong>The</strong> staff of the Office for Campus<br />
Life is responsible for student leadership development,<br />
campus programming, group advising and<br />
mentoring, as well as the daily oper<strong>at</strong>ions of the<br />
Mayer Campus Center, Hayes House and Curtis<br />
Hall. Finally, the Office for Campus Life takes a<br />
leadership role in the planning and implement<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
of New Student Orient<strong>at</strong>ion. Students looking for<br />

Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Center<br />
<strong>The</strong> Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Center (I-Center) provides<br />
immigr<strong>at</strong>ion advising and visa document<strong>at</strong>ion for<br />
approxim<strong>at</strong>ely 1,254 students, faculty, and research<br />
scholars, representing more than 100 countries on<br />
all campuses. Additionally, the office provides<br />
counseling and advising services to undergradu<strong>at</strong>e<br />
and gradu<strong>at</strong>e students as needed. A small emergency<br />
loan fund exists to assist students with<br />
short-term financial need.<br />
<strong>The</strong> I-Center processes visa documents for<br />
nonimmigrant students, faculty, and research<br />
scholars. <strong>Tufts</strong> is legally required to report to the<br />
U.S. Citizenship and Immigr<strong>at</strong>ion Services<br />
(USCIS) when students or faculty/research scholars<br />
fall out of compliance with the USCIS regul<strong>at</strong>ions.<br />
<strong>The</strong> I-Center coordin<strong>at</strong>es a number of activities<br />
throughout the year, including an undergradu<strong>at</strong>e<br />
pre-orient<strong>at</strong>ion program for new intern<strong>at</strong>ional<br />
students and American first-year students. This<br />
program is run by the I-Center and selects undergradu<strong>at</strong>e<br />
volunteer host advisors, both intern<strong>at</strong>ional<br />
and American, to implement the program. <strong>The</strong><br />
I-Center, in conjunction with the Intern<strong>at</strong>ional<br />
Club, co-sponsors the Parade of N<strong>at</strong>ions and the<br />
Oliver Chapman Leadership Award. This award is<br />
given to a senior who has been active with the<br />
intern<strong>at</strong>ional community, either on the <strong>Tufts</strong><br />
campus or off-campus in the local community. <strong>The</strong><br />
recipient will be a person who has reached out to<br />
others and who has had an impact on the lives of<br />
<strong>Tufts</strong> students or on a group or community outside<br />
of <strong>Tufts</strong>. <strong>The</strong> I-Center serves as advisor to the<br />
Intern<strong>at</strong>ional House (a special interest house) and<br />
to the Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Club.<br />
<strong>The</strong> I-Center also provides programs for<br />
gradu<strong>at</strong>e intern<strong>at</strong>ional students. <strong>The</strong> Intercultural<br />
Convers<strong>at</strong>ion Program (ICP) is available for<br />
gradu<strong>at</strong>e students who wish to meet with a partner<br />
on a regular basis to practice spoken English and to<br />
develop a friendship. Exchange Students, enrolled<br />
<strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong> for one or two semesters, also receive<br />
immigr<strong>at</strong>ion support and programming through the<br />
I-Center, in cooper<strong>at</strong>ion with the <strong>Tufts</strong> Programs<br />
Abroad Office.<br />
<strong>The</strong> I-Center works closely with the Office of<br />
Career Services to provide workshops designed<br />
specifically for intern<strong>at</strong>ional students. <strong>The</strong>se<br />
workshops cover interviewing skills as well as an<br />
annual intern<strong>at</strong>ional alumni networking night.<br />
This event provides an opportunity for gradu<strong>at</strong>ing<br />
intern<strong>at</strong>ional students to engage with intern<strong>at</strong>ional<br />
alumni in planning their future careers. <strong>The</strong><br />
Director of the I-Center hosts alumni reunion<br />
events world-wide re-connecting alumni and<br />
fostering friendships formed <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong>!<br />

Africana Center<br />
<strong>The</strong> Africana Center was founded in 1969 to meet<br />
the needs and concerns of <strong>Tufts</strong> students of African<br />
descent. <strong>The</strong> Center supports the academic mission<br />
of the university by providing students access to a<br />
full range of academic, cultural and social resources.<br />
In addition, the director of the Center works closely<br />
with the administr<strong>at</strong>ive and academic offices of the<br />
university on issues of interest to students, and<br />
advoc<strong>at</strong>es proactively on their behalf. <strong>The</strong> Center is<br />
committed to helping students succeed <strong>at</strong> the<br />
university and preparing them to take leadership<br />
roles in their chosen fields.<br />
Programs: <strong>The</strong> Center implements programs,<br />
such as the Annual Orient<strong>at</strong>ion Retre<strong>at</strong>, a year-long<br />
Peer Advisors program for incoming freshmen,<br />
Black History Month events and a variety of end of<br />
semester activities, all of which are designed to<br />
encourage and support the intellectual growth and<br />
awareness of <strong>Tufts</strong> undergradu<strong>at</strong>es. Additionally,<br />
there are bi-weekly facilit<strong>at</strong>ed group discussions<br />
with the Black Women’s Collective and Black<br />
Men’s Group. <strong>The</strong> Center also provides culturally<br />
