Scholarship Funds ><br />
<strong>The</strong> Seymour and Marcia Simches Scholarship Fund,<br />
established in 1986 by friends and family members of<br />
Professor Seymour Simches. This fund will be awarded<br />
annually to an outstanding student in financial need who is<br />
majoring in one of the humanities.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Simmons Scholarships, founded in 1895 by Robert F.<br />
Simmons, of Attleboro, in the name of Mary F. and Robert F.<br />
Simmons.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Miriam Charef Simonds Scholarship Fund,<br />
established by her sister, Pauline Charef Simonds, Jackson<br />
‘54, with assistance from family, friends, and colleagues. An<br />
ardent student of American political life, Mimi Simonds<br />
possessed, to an exceptional degree, an ability to respond<br />
cre<strong>at</strong>ively and effectively to the social and political issues of<br />
her time. She performed outstanding public service <strong>at</strong> the<br />
community, st<strong>at</strong>e, and n<strong>at</strong>ional levels. In keeping with the<br />
compelling interests of her life, it is the family’s wish th<strong>at</strong><br />
the annual income from this scholarship fund be awarded<br />
to a student in the gradu<strong>at</strong>e Program in Public Policy and<br />
Citizen Particip<strong>at</strong>ion who is deemed both financially and<br />
academically worthy of this recognition and who has<br />
completed one year of study. For Mimi Simonds, hope for<br />
the future was a premise th<strong>at</strong> sustained her until her de<strong>at</strong>h.<br />
It is the intent of this scholarship to provide a living legacy<br />
of th<strong>at</strong> hope and a memorial to the commitment which she<br />
brought to public service.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Simons Family Scholarship, established in 1987 to<br />
provide a partial scholarship in the College of Liberal Arts.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Simons Memorial Scholarship, founded in 1891 by<br />
Mrs. Mary A. Simons, of Manchester, New Hampshire, in<br />
memory of Hiram H. Augustus and Frank Simons.<br />
*<strong>The</strong> Charles A. and Cornelia B. Skinner Scholarship,<br />
founded in 1907 by the Reverend Charles A. Skinner, D.D.,<br />
and Mrs. Cornelia B. Skinner, of Cambridge, Massachusetts.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Capt. Benjamin Sklaver Endowed Scholarship Fund,<br />
established in 2010 in memory of Benjamin Sklaver, A’99,<br />
F’03.<br />
<strong>The</strong> John Richard Skuse, Class of 1941, Memorial<br />
Scholarship, established in 1999 by the bequest of John<br />
Richard Skuse to provide financial aid to <strong>Tufts</strong> students<br />
based on ability, achievement, and need. First preference is<br />
given to students from the town of Exeter, New Hampshire.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Michael B. Slone, A’89 Endowed Scholarship for<br />
Talloires, established in 2010 in memory of Michael<br />
Bennett Slone, A’89, to benefit students with demonstr<strong>at</strong>ed<br />
financial need, whose plan of study includes the European<br />
Center in Talloires.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Abraham and Sonya Slifka Scholarship Fund,<br />
established in 1991 to provide financial aid for undergradu<strong>at</strong>e<br />
students.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Phyllis E. Sloan Endowed Scholarship, established in<br />
2009 to support undergradu<strong>at</strong>e scholarships within the<br />
<strong>University</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Charles E. Smith Scholarship, established in 1952 by<br />
Charles Eugene Smith of the Class of 1922, the income to<br />
be awarded to a young man in the College of Liberal Arts.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Dana Weiss Smith and Robert A. Smith Scholarship,<br />
established In 2013 to support financial aid for undergradu<strong>at</strong>e<br />
students in the School of Arts and Sciences <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>.<br />
*<strong>The</strong> Rena Greenwood Smith Scholarship Fund,<br />
established in 1986 by the Richard Ilsey Smith Trust to<br />
benefit a worthy student of Jackson College.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Richard Ilsey Smith Scholarship Fund, established in<br />
1986 to benefit a worthy student of the university.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Simeon C. Smith and Emily A. Smith Scholarship<br />
Gift. <strong>The</strong> income from a trust fund established by Simeon<br />
C. Smith to be known as the Simeon C. Smith and Emily A.<br />
Smith Fund, alloc<strong>at</strong>ed by the trustees for scholarship<br />
purposes.<br />
<strong>The</strong> George A. Spencer Scholarship, established in 2000<br />
to benefit deserving students from the School of Engineering<br />
<strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Virginia Nold Spencer Memorial Scholarship,<br />
established in 1996 to help ensure a <strong>Tufts</strong> engineering<br />
educ<strong>at</strong>ion to the most qualified students regardless of<br />
their financial capabilities.<br />
<strong>The</strong> John Murray Sprague and Eliza Fletcher Sprague<br />
Scholarship, founded in 1908 by John Sprague, of Lowell,<br />
Massachusetts.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Miriam Carleton Squires Scholarship, established in<br />
1971 under the will of Miriam Carleton Squires, of Broken<br />
Bow, Nebraska, a member of the Class of 1908.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Marjorie Cohen Stanzler Scholarship Fund,<br />
established in 2002 to provide financial aid to needy<br />
students who are citizens of the United St<strong>at</strong>es.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Edwin Carter Starr Memorial Scholarship, established<br />
in 1980 by Mrs. Paul (C<strong>at</strong>herine S.) Phenix in memory<br />
of her f<strong>at</strong>her. <strong>The</strong> income is awarded annually to benefit<br />
students in the field of child development.<br />
<strong>The</strong> St<strong>at</strong>e Scholarships, established in 1859 in accordance<br />
with a resolve of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Charles E. Stearns Scholarship Fund, established by<br />
students, colleagues, friends, and family to honor the<br />
exceptional fifty-year career of Charlie Stearns, A39, as a<br />
gifted student, a caring and intellectually stimul<strong>at</strong>ing<br />
professor, and a loyal and insightful dean. It is intended to<br />
support one or more Geology students who have<br />
demonstr<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>at</strong>tention to detail, thoughtful analysis, and<br />
