5. A one-credit final project (EE95 or 96, or both<br />

EE97 and 98; ME43 or 94; or Music 98) on an<br />

approved topic, supervised by a particip<strong>at</strong>ing<br />

minor advisor.<br />

Each student taking the minor must have a minor<br />

faculty advisor who approves course selections and<br />

mentors the final project. Each minor must include<br />

<strong>at</strong> least two courses with Engineering course<br />

Nutrition<br />

<strong>The</strong> Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School<br />

of Nutrition Science and Policy <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

was established in 1981, bringing together biomedical,<br />

social and behavioral scientists to improve<br />

the nutritional well-being of people worldwide.<br />

<strong>The</strong> school offers Master of Science and Doctor<br />

of Philosophy degrees, and in cooper<strong>at</strong>ion with the<br />

Frances Stern Nutrition Center of the New England<br />

Medical Center Hospital, a combined Master of<br />

Science with Dietetic Internship program. Dualdegree<br />

programs are offered with the School of<br />

Medicine (M.S./Master of Public Health) and with<br />

the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy<br />

(M.S./M.A.L.D.). In addition, a one-year Master<br />

of Arts in Humanitarian Affairs is offered in<br />

conjunction with the Fletcher School, and a Master<br />

of Nutrition Science and Policy degree is offered<br />

through a blend of online learning with short<br />

residencies.<br />

<strong>The</strong> school’s faculty lead a wide variety of<br />

educ<strong>at</strong>ional, research and engagement programs in<br />

Boston and elsewhere. <strong>The</strong> faculty includes<br />

agronomists, biomedical scientists, economists,<br />

geographers, physicians, veterinarians, psychologists<br />

and others, all dedic<strong>at</strong>ed to teaching and research to<br />

improve the nutritional well-being of people<br />

worldwide. Some faculty members have their<br />

primary appointment and maintain labor<strong>at</strong>ories <strong>at</strong><br />

the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research<br />

Center on Aging (HNRCA), the Sackler School or<br />

elsewhere <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong>, while others conduct field<br />

research around the world.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Boston School of Occup<strong>at</strong>ional <strong>The</strong>rapy, the<br />

first of its kind in the country, was founded in 1918<br />

<strong>at</strong> the request of the surgeon general of the United<br />

St<strong>at</strong>es Army to meet the need for personnel in<br />

military hospitals. It was l<strong>at</strong>er reorganized on a<br />

civilian basis and in 1921 was incorpor<strong>at</strong>ed as a<br />

nonprofit educ<strong>at</strong>ional institution under the laws of<br />

the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.<br />

In 1945 the Boston School of Occup<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

<strong>The</strong>rapy became affili<strong>at</strong>ed with <strong>Tufts</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
