Scholarship Funds ><br />
Scholarship Funds<br />
<strong>University</strong> scholarship funds available to students in the<br />
College of Liberal Arts, Jackson College, and the School of<br />
Engineering are listed in this section. <strong>The</strong> endowment of<br />
the university’s scholarship funds has been invested and<br />
the income is used to provide financial aid to students as<br />
described in the financial aid section. Scholarship funds<br />
intended solely for Jackson College are preceded by an<br />
asterisk.<br />
All of these funds are awarded based on financial need<br />
and the recipients are chosen by the financial aid office.<br />
No separ<strong>at</strong>e applic<strong>at</strong>ion is necessary.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Alireza Family Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Scholarship, established<br />
in 2000 to provide scholarships for highly qualified Muslim<br />
students who need financial assistance to be able to enroll<br />
<strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Alice Harrison Allen Endowed Scholarship,<br />
established in 2008, in support of financial aid for <strong>Tufts</strong><br />
undergradu<strong>at</strong>e students in the School of Arts and Sciences.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Lizzie P. Allen Scholarship, founded in 1900 by Lizzie<br />
P. Allen, of Derby Line, Vermont.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Alpha Sigma Phi Fr<strong>at</strong>ernity Fund, founded in 1981.<br />
Preference is given to descendants of alumni who were<br />
members of Alpha Sigma Phi <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Alfred E. Anderson Scholarship, established in 2002<br />
to provide scholarship awards to United St<strong>at</strong>es citizens.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Anderson Scholarship, founded in 1890 by John M.<br />
Anderson, of Salem, in the name of John M. and Rebecca<br />
Anderson.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Arthur J. Anderson Scholarship, established in 1954<br />
by Arthur J. Anderson of the Class of 1912.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Gilbert A. and Robena J. Andrew Scholarship Fund,<br />
established in 1985 by the est<strong>at</strong>e of Dr. Norman W. Andrew<br />
in honor of his parents to aid students in the field of<br />
premedical studies.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Norman W. Andrew Scholarship Fund, established in<br />
1985 by the est<strong>at</strong>e of Norman W. Andrew to aid students in<br />
the field of biology.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Eileen Fox Aptman, J’90 and Lowell Aptman<br />
Endowed Scholarship, established in 2011 in the School<br />
of Arts and Sciences, to help strengthen and support <strong>Tufts</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>’s progress to become a need-blind institution.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Jesse Moses Aronson Scholarship, established in<br />
1951 by Jesse Moses Aronson of the Class of 1918, to be<br />
awarded each year to an outstanding applicant for<br />
admission to the School of Engineering who needs<br />
financial help to <strong>at</strong>tend college.<br />
*<strong>The</strong> Associ<strong>at</strong>ion of <strong>Tufts</strong> Alumnae, Inc. Scholarship,<br />
established in 1957 for an annual scholarship to be<br />
awarded to a Jackson student who has completed one year<br />
successfully and is selected by a university committee, with<br />
the approval of the dean of Jackson College.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Jack and Myrtle Atlas Scholarship, established in<br />
1987 to provide financial aid to needy undergradu<strong>at</strong>es,<br />
with preference to students from California.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Eugene Averell and Elizabeth Harlow Averell<br />
Scholarship, established in 1952 by provision in the will of<br />
Eugene Averell of the Class of 1895, the income to be paid<br />
annually to a meritorious student.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Cyrus V. Bacon and Ada B. W. Bacon Scholarship,<br />
founded in 1915 by Mrs. Ada B. W. Bacon, of Hingham,<br />
Massachusetts.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Bacow/Gordon Endowed Scholarship Fund,<br />
established in 2011 by Michael S. Gordon, A’87 and<br />
Christina Gordon, in honor of Lawrence S. Bacow and Adele<br />
Fleet Bacow. This scholarship recognizes the visionary<br />
leadership President Bacow provided <strong>Tufts</strong> between 2001<br />
and 2011 and supports his goal of removing economic<br />
obstacles to talented students seeking a college educ<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Mitchell and Ruth Bacow Endowed Scholarship<br />
Fund, established in 2003 as part of the Pritzker Challenge<br />
to benefit outstanding undergradu<strong>at</strong>e students and to<br />
increase the diversity of the student body.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Crosby F. Baker Memorial Scholarship, established in<br />
1955 by colleagues, friends, former students, and family in<br />
memory of Crosby F. Baker of the Class of 1910, member of<br />
the faculty from 1900 to 1954.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Balfour Scholarship Fund, established in 1989 by a<br />
generous grant from the L. G. Balfour Found<strong>at</strong>ion to aid<br />
talented minority students in need of financial assistance.<br />
<strong>The</strong> George Stevens Ballard Scholarship, founded in<br />
1910 by Caroline D. M. Ballard, of Augusta, Maine.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Almon Ballou, Carolyn Clark Scholarship, established<br />
in 1954 by Carolyn Clark Bigelow of the Class of 1900 in<br />
memory of her grandf<strong>at</strong>her, Almon Ballou.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Hosea Ballou II Memorial Scholarship, founded in<br />
1891 by Mrs. Mary T. Goddard, of Newton, Massachusetts.<br />
<strong>The</strong> L<strong>at</strong>imer W. Ballou Scholarship, founded in 1898 by<br />
L<strong>at</strong>imer W. Ballou, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island.<br />
<strong>The</strong> John and Staci Barber Endowed Scholarship,<br />
established in 2008, to support scholarships within the<br />
<strong>University</strong> and to increase the diversity of the <strong>Tufts</strong><br />
undergradu<strong>at</strong>e student body.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Barnard Scholarships, founded in 1897 by Mrs.<br />
Caroline M. Barnard, of Everett, Massachusetts.<br />
<strong>The</strong> John K. and Margaret G. Baronian Scholarship,<br />
established in 1977 by John K. Baronian, A’50, in memory of<br />
his immigrant parents, survivors of the Armenian Genocide<br />
