<strong>The</strong> Muslim Chaplaincy<br />

<strong>The</strong> Muslim Chaplaincy <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong> provides an<br />

opportunity for Muslim students to g<strong>at</strong>her for<br />

worship, social activities, and educ<strong>at</strong>ion. <strong>The</strong>re are<br />

weekly prayer services <strong>at</strong> 1 p.m. on Fridays and<br />

opportunity for daily prayer during the academic<br />

year. <strong>The</strong> chaplain is available to all those who want<br />

<strong>The</strong> Protestant Chaplaincy<br />

Pastoral counseling and activities are provided by<br />

the chaplain. During the academic year, a studentinvolved,<br />

ecumenical Protestant worship service is<br />

held on Sundays <strong>at</strong> 7 p.m. in Goddard Chapel with<br />

a fellowship time proceeding worship <strong>at</strong> special<br />

times in the Christian year. Rachael Pettengill-<br />

Rasure is the Protestant Chaplain. <strong>The</strong> Protestant<br />

Chaplaincy rel<strong>at</strong>es to the Protestant Student<br />

Associ<strong>at</strong>ion and other Protestant groups on<br />

<strong>Tufts</strong> <strong>University</strong> Art Gallery<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong> <strong>University</strong> Art Gallery anim<strong>at</strong>es the<br />

intellectual life of the gre<strong>at</strong>er university community<br />

through exhibitions and programs th<strong>at</strong> explore new,<br />

global perspectives on art and art discourse. <strong>The</strong><br />

Gallery is dedic<strong>at</strong>ed to conceiving and presenting<br />

contemporary art exhibitions and educ<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

programs th<strong>at</strong> support the academic and civic ideals<br />

of the <strong>University</strong>. <strong>The</strong> Gallery is also the steward of<br />

the <strong>University</strong>’s permanent art collection.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Gallery’s academic mission is to provide a<br />

research and teaching pl<strong>at</strong>form for its major<br />

constituencies. <strong>The</strong>m<strong>at</strong>ic and solo-artist exhibitions<br />

are socially relevant and idea-driven. <strong>The</strong>y aim to<br />

expose fresh interpret<strong>at</strong>ions and scholarship on art,<br />

art history, and visual culture. Guided tours for<br />

classes and groups based on the Visual Thinking<br />

Str<strong>at</strong>egies (VTS) method are available by appointment.<br />

A “Museum Without Walls-<strong>Tufts</strong>” web app<br />

is available (tuftsart.toursphere.com) th<strong>at</strong> aids in<br />

the interpret<strong>at</strong>ion and appreci<strong>at</strong>ion of art sited<br />

around the Medford campus. Each May, the<br />

Gallery hosts an exhibition organized by students<br />

in the <strong>Tufts</strong> Museum Studies Program, a gradu<strong>at</strong>e<br />

certific<strong>at</strong>e program.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Gallery’s major constituencies include:<br />

current students, faculty, and staff on the <strong>Tufts</strong><br />

Medford/Somerville campus; the School of the<br />

Museum of Fine Arts, and the other <strong>Tufts</strong> schools;<br />

the gre<strong>at</strong>er university community of alumni, parents,<br />

donors, friends, and neighbors; the regional and<br />

New England arts community; and arts professionals<br />

(including exhibiting artists). Its Contemporary<br />

Art Circle organizes events in Boston, New York<br />

City, and occasionally elsewhere th<strong>at</strong> foster art<br />

appreci<strong>at</strong>ion and educ<strong>at</strong>ion as well as collecting.<br />

Circle don<strong>at</strong>ions support the Gallery’s special<br />

projects and public<strong>at</strong>ions.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong> <strong>University</strong> Art Gallery’s exhibition<br />

space consists of the Tisch Family Gallery, the<br />

Koppelman Gallery, the Remis Sculpture Court,<br />

and the Sl<strong>at</strong>er Concourse Gallery (a <strong>Tufts</strong> community<br />

gallery). More inform<strong>at</strong>ion and a calendar of<br />

Balch Arena <strong>The</strong><strong>at</strong>er<br />

Every year the Balch Arena <strong>The</strong><strong>at</strong>er presents three<br />

major productions in which students are encouraged<br />

to particip<strong>at</strong>e. Opportunities are provided for<br />

involvement in acting, directing, design, stage<br />

management, and arts administr<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Up to ten undergradu<strong>at</strong>e-directed productions<br />

are mounted annually. <strong>The</strong> summer season offers<br />

students a chance to work in Magic Circle <strong>The</strong><strong>at</strong>er<br />

for children ages eleven to fifteen, and in Cre<strong>at</strong>ive<br />

Arts for children ages seven to ten. <strong>The</strong> Balch<br />

Arena <strong>The</strong><strong>at</strong>er is the home of many of the university’s<br />

drama groups, including Pen, Paint, and<br />

Pretzels, <strong>Tufts</strong>’ umbrella student the<strong>at</strong>er organiz<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

<strong>The</strong> the<strong>at</strong>er also hosts dance performances,<br />

lectures/demonstr<strong>at</strong>ions, and other special events.<br />

<strong>The</strong> the<strong>at</strong>er’s box office, costume shop, lighting<br />

shop, and scene shop employ students to support<br />

the many the<strong>at</strong>er-rel<strong>at</strong>ed activities throughout the<br />

year.<br />

Athletic Facilities<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>at</strong>hletic program <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong> provides students<br />

with numerous opportunities to compete in<br />

intercollegi<strong>at</strong>e, intramural, and club sports, and to<br />

engage in general recre<strong>at</strong>ion. <strong>The</strong> intercollegi<strong>at</strong>e<br />

<strong>at</strong>hletics program <strong>at</strong> <strong>Tufts</strong> fe<strong>at</strong>ures thirty-one<br />

Varsity sports, most of which compete as members<br />
