I. Library Support for the Degree Program
Humber Library has a core book collection to support the Bachelor of Behavioural Science
Degree.
Humber Library has 115,769 print books in its collection, 87,465 at the North campus
and 28,304 at the Lakeshore campus. Within this larger collection, the Library has a core
book collection that supports the Bachelor of Behavioural Science Degree.
Appendix A identifies the current book holdings, both print and ebooks, available to
curriculum. This document shows Humber‟s holdings by call number range, and
campus location in order to identify the strengths of the book collection as well as to
identify potential gaps.
Overall, Humber‟s book collection is generally strong in the core subject areas that cover
Behavioural Science. There are, however, still some call number ranges that could be
augmented in order to provide a greater depth of resources for some areas.
Specifically, having reviewed the course descriptions for this degree, a number of
recommended book titles are not in the library‟s collection.
Based on 2012 book prices, the average cost of a book is $80.00. In order to address
the collection issues noted above and to update the collection on an annual basis, the
following book budget is recommended:
Core and general Behavioural Science subjects – one-time budget to address collection
gaps $8,000
(100 books $80, per book)
Core subjects – annual commitment to continually update collection $4,000 (allocated as
follows: $4,000 print and ebooks; the costs of journals and databases are absorbed by
other budgets/programs)
