professionalism, and 10 breadth electives. They have been designed to be similar to Bachelor
degrees with regard to professional outcomes and to meet the Board’s Baccalaureate/Bachelor
Honours Degree Standard, as outlined in the Ontario Credentials Framework. They are
academically rigorous and designed to develop students’ capacities to analyze, formulate, judge
and solve challenging behavioural science problems.
The Bachelor of Behavioural Science degree will prepare students for entry into an occupational
field of practice by incorporating into the degree a reciprocal relationship between theory and
practice. There is a substantial use of case studies to provide students the opportunity to
develop and demonstrate these skills. Students are expected to address increasingly
challenging behavioural science problems and exhibit more sophisticated and complex levels of
analysis as they move into upper level courses. This aligns directly with the approach taken at
other institutions for the delivery of Bachelor degrees. In addition, the work experience and the
Senior Level Thesis Project, provide hands-on experience in the field.
All Humber degrees prepare students for advanced level study, as well as for entry into a
profession. The degrees are not terminal degrees and this provides the opportunity for students
to apply to graduate schools. Evidence of this is provided in this submission in the form of
credential recognition from other educational institutions in Canada and the U.S. which have
agreed to consider graduates for admission to Masters-level programs.
The degree title and the courses are all aligned with the postsecondary conventions and the
Board’s nomenclature standard. Given that Humber’s degree meets the same degree level
standards and covers similar content areas to other behavioural science degrees, the
nomenclature Bachelor of Behavioural Science provides clarity and truthfulness as to the nature
and level of the degree and the field of study. Furthermore, our credit recognition experience in
degree delivery to date has shown us that unless our students graduate with a recognizable
degree credential, they face considerable barriers in their attempts to apply for graduate studies
in Ontario universities.
