supplement <strong>the</strong> content produced by professional journalists (Deuze 2003).<br />

Patterns of social media, participatory journalism and open journalistic culture have not<br />

been as significant for magazines as for newspapers. Many Finnish magazines offer<br />

very little journalistic content on <strong>the</strong>ir websites, while some magazines offer plenty<br />

participatory elements.<br />

This research project makes use of Deuze’s model to find out how open iPad<br />

journalism is and <strong>the</strong> extent to which iPad magazines allow reader participation.<br />

Research questions and methods<br />

This research project investigates <strong>the</strong> role of IPad in Finnish magazines, with focus on<br />

identifying how IPad is changing <strong>the</strong> journalistic process and how readers are reacting<br />

to this new type of journalistic product.<br />

The research questions are:<br />

1) How revolutionary is iPad journalism?<br />

2) What is changing in journalistic processes?<br />
