on all purchases and free shipping on site; offer d<strong>is</strong>counts in gyms, medical, dental<br />

and optical clinics, hairdressers and swimming pools.<br />

C) <strong>CSR</strong> and community involvement<br />

Gelpeixe has an agreement with the association "Young Challenge" in order to<br />

support the integration of workers with a background of alcohol and drugs abuse.<br />

<strong>What</strong> are the reasons why the company <strong>is</strong> pursuing <strong>CSR</strong>? How does the<br />

company benefit from its <strong>CSR</strong> activities?<br />

Gelpeixe have a policy of equality between women and men as priority for<br />

organ<strong>is</strong>ational development. The company has a code of conduct and other<br />

documents stating the principles of equality and non d<strong>is</strong>crimination; encourages the<br />

equal participation of women and men in the process of lifelong learning. The SME<br />

provides in its wage policy, compliance with the principle "Equal pay for equal work or<br />

equal value" between employees and practices flexible work schedules with a view to<br />

reconciling work and family. Gelpeixe has also a non-d<strong>is</strong>crimination policy of people<br />

in terms of race, age and religion and d<strong>is</strong>closes, information regarding rights and<br />

duties of collaborators, in respect of equality and non-d<strong>is</strong>crimination and maternity<br />

and paternity leave.<br />

Prices and awards: In 2009, Gelpeixe received a Best SME to Work Award in a<br />

ranking publ<strong>is</strong>hed by the Magazine Exame. Since 2008, Gelpeixe <strong>is</strong> considered a<br />

Leader SME by IAPMEI – The Portuguese Institute of Support to Small and Medium<br />

Enterpr<strong>is</strong>es and Innovation. Gelpeixe was d<strong>is</strong>tingu<strong>is</strong>hed several times with SME<br />

Awards and SME Excellence Prestige by IAPMEI, between 1993 and 1999. The<br />

company was chosen by the Portuguese government to be v<strong>is</strong>ited within the WEFT -<br />

West European F<strong>is</strong>h Technolog<strong>is</strong>ts Association on the two meetings held in Portugal<br />

in 1992 and 2007. Gelpeixe integrated the <strong>Corporate</strong> Award of Merit by the City Hall<br />

of Loures in 1991.<br />

For Gelpeixe, <strong>Corporate</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Responsibility</strong> (<strong>CSR</strong>) <strong>is</strong> part of the corporate culture.<br />

Stakeholders benefit from the <strong>CSR</strong> activities since those practices are perceived as<br />

benefits and provider higher positive impact as:<br />

- Ability to attract, motivate and retain talent inside the companies as the most<br />

qualified employees<br />

- Higher workforce flexibility<br />
