In short<br />
Siemens has been active in Hungary since 1890. Since then, the company<br />
headquartered in Budapest has been pioneering the modern<strong>is</strong>ation and<br />
development of the infrastructure as well as the electrical and electronic<br />
industry. The company sells Siemens products, systems and solutions in<br />
Hungary and renders a variety of services ranging from consulting, creating<br />
drafts, installation, start-up and technical operations to maintenance in the<br />
following fields: energy and environmental management, medical technology,<br />
industrial automation and management, traffic, industrial and communal<br />
infrastructure, IT solutions and services. During the 2010 business year, the<br />
companies of the Hungarian Siemens Group employed a total of 1857 workers<br />
and contributed to the economy with a total turnover in the amount of HUF 89.7<br />
billion (close to 319 million Euro). In Hungary, Siemens <strong>is</strong> adapting the<br />
company's worldwide <strong>Corporate</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Responsibility</strong> (<strong>CSR</strong>) programmes to<br />
the national character<strong>is</strong>tics and regional requirements of the location.<br />
How does the company demonstrate social responsibility?<br />
A) <strong>CSR</strong> programmes of the company as a global umbrella strategy<br />
Siemens <strong>is</strong> active as investor, supplier, employer and client in 190 countries and<br />
considers itself to be part of society. To help secure the company's future<br />
internationally, Siemens contributes to a sustainable development at its locations.<br />
The company has launched <strong>CSR</strong> programmes worldwide for th<strong>is</strong> purpose. Actions<br />
focusing on education and social ass<strong>is</strong>tance have been pooled in "Siemens<br />
Generation21" and "Siemens Caring Hands". As a programme for the promotion of<br />
excellence, "Siemens Generation21" <strong>is</strong> designed to introduce children, adolescents<br />
and young adults to the natural sciences and technology. "Siemens Caring Hands"<br />
compr<strong>is</strong>es voluntary employee involvement as well as donations and emergency aid<br />
from the company. However, Siemens also contributes to the support of important<br />
social concerns and duties by promoting the arts and culture.<br />
The regional companies participate in the umbrella strategy of the international<br />
Siemens programme in <strong>CSR</strong> projects in the individual countries, which are focused<br />
on the national circumstances.<br />
