With respect to the international <strong>CSR</strong> requirements, the Global Compact can indeed<br />

ensure an incomplete, yet comprehensive overview. The ten principles of the pact<br />

have been defined as follows:<br />

Human rights<br />

Principle 1: companies are asked to support and respect the protection of the<br />

international human rights within their scope of influence and<br />

Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights violation.<br />

Labour standards<br />

Principle 3: companies are asked to respect the freedom of association and the<br />

effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining as well as additionally vouch<br />

for<br />

Principle 4: the abol<strong>is</strong>hment of all forms of forced labour,<br />

Principle 5: the abol<strong>is</strong>hment of child labour and<br />

Principle 6: the abol<strong>is</strong>hment of d<strong>is</strong>crimination associated with hiring and employment.<br />

Environmental protection<br />

Principle 7: companies are asked to support a precautionary approach when dealing<br />

with environmental problems,<br />

Principle 8: adopt initiatives to generate a greater sense of responsibility for the<br />

environment and<br />

Principle 9: support the development and d<strong>is</strong>tribution of environmentally-friendly<br />

technologies.<br />

Combating corruption<br />

Principle 10: companies are asked to fight any kind of corruption, including extortion<br />

and bribery.<br />
