FIVE-YEAR PLAN (2007-2012)<br />

I. AIMS<br />

1 To align with the school aims to develop students’ abilities<br />

2. To develop in students curiosity and interest in economic problems and issues facing<br />

individuals, societies, countries and the world as a whole<br />

3. To provide students of varying aptitudes with the basic economic knowledge and<br />

skills necessary to understand better the world in which they live, reason about<br />

economic issues and participate more fully as responsible citizens in the<br />

decision-making processes of a modern society<br />

4. To enable students to understand the basic economic problem of the allocation of<br />

scarce resources to alternative uses, the more important economic forces and<br />

institutions with which they will come into contact as producers and consumers, as<br />

well as the interdependence of economic activities<br />

5. To develop in students the ability to communicate through the effective use of<br />

economic terminology, data, concepts and principles<br />

6. To enable students to understand controversies over economic issues, respect private<br />

property rights and exercise responsible citizenship<br />

II.<br />

SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS<br />

1. Strengths<br />

a. The learning ability of students is improving<br />

b. Teachers are diligent and enthusiastic in teaching<br />

c. There is good communication and co-operation among panel members<br />

d. Teachers are creative and willing to accept new ideas<br />

e. The promotion of high order thinking skills facilitates the change of teaching<br />

approach<br />

f. The emphasis on using information technology in teaching helps teachers to<br />

conduct their lessons more effectively<br />

2. Weaknesses<br />

a. Language barrier affects a few students’ comprehension of the text and questions<br />

b. There is insufficient time to cover the HKCEE and HKALE syllabuses;<br />

therefore, extra lessons are always conducted<br />

c. Students are not aware of current news and issues; therefore they may<br />

misinterpret the scenerio in questions in examinations<br />
