I. AIMS<br />

1. To align with the school aims to develop students’ abilities<br />

2. To pass on the knowledge of science and basic experimental skills to students<br />

II. SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS<br />

1. Strengths<br />

a. There are sufficient logistic resources<br />

b. There is good cooperation between teachers and laboratory technicians<br />

c. Teachers are knowledgeable in science and are eager to improve themselves<br />

d. Most students are well-disciplined<br />

e. There are different sources from which students can learn more about science<br />

2. Weaknesses<br />

a. Teachers have much administrative work and that reduces the possibility of<br />

providing greater individual attention after school<br />

b. Teachers need to put effort into tailoring the curriculum<br />

c. Students are weak in experimental techniques and logical thinking<br />

d. Some students’ grasp of science concepts is greatly hindered by their weakness<br />

in English<br />

III. OBJECTIVES<br />

1. To help students acquire basic knowledge of some facts and concepts concerning<br />

the environment<br />

2. To help students acquire knowledge of the use of appropriate instruments in<br />

scientific experiments<br />

3. To help students acquire the language of science and to equip them with the skills in<br />

communicating ideas in science related contexts<br />

4. To help students develop curiosity and interest in science<br />

5. To enable students to think and act creatively in science and develop students’<br />

problem-solving skills<br />

6. To help students develop self-learning skills<br />

7. To help students acquire experimental techniques involving several skills<br />

8. To equip teachers with updated science knowledge and teaching methods<br />
