FIVE-YEAR PLAN (2007-2012)<br />

I. AIMS<br />

1. To align with the school aims to develop students’ abilities<br />

2. To teach Mathematics according to the purposes laid down by the CDC CE<br />

Mathematics syllabus:<br />

a. To introduce some basic Mathematical concepts to students, to continue the<br />

development of numeracy, and to help students acquire and apply the skills<br />

b. To provide, at all levels, more experience with numbers by introducing a<br />

general sense of the pattern and power of Mathematics both as a tool and as a<br />

part of our cultural heritage<br />

c. To prepare students to understand everyday applications outside the classroom<br />

and provide a basis for further work and studies<br />

3. To ensure quality education<br />

II. SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS<br />

1. Strengths<br />

a. Teachers are energetic<br />

b. The majority of teachers are experienced<br />

c. Teachers are eager to learn, further their studies, cooperative, helpful and<br />

enthusiastic in teaching<br />

d. Teachers are willing to share their experience<br />

e. There is a well-established administration system in the Mathematics Panel<br />

f. There is a well-established appraisal system in the Mathematics Panel<br />

g. The staff turnover rate in Mathematics Panel has been low<br />

h. Teachers are willing to spend a lot of time on planning, evaluation, research and<br />

development<br />

i. Teachers are willing to spend a lot of time giving extra tutorial lessons if<br />

necessary<br />

j. There is backup from the Mathematics Society and its student ex-co members<br />

k. Students’ achievement in Mathematics in public examinations is above the<br />

Hong Kong average<br />

l. An assessment system and sufficient software are available to facilitate using IT<br />

in teaching<br />

m. The school provides enough physical and human resources for normal, remedial<br />

and elite class teaching<br />
