FIVE-YEAR PLAN (2007-2012)<br />

I. AIMS<br />

1. To align with the school aims to develop students’ abilities<br />

2. To develop students’ ability to acquire knowledge of science and technology, and<br />

understand the relation between science, technology and society so that students are<br />

capable of making informed decisions in science and technology issues.<br />

II. SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS<br />

1. Strengths<br />

a. Teachers have a shared vision in developing the new curriculum and work<br />

collaboratively in preparing curriculum materials. The working relationship<br />

among panel members (teachers and laboratory technician) is good<br />

b. Teachers are well-equipped with subject and pedagogic knowledge<br />

c. Teachers are open to the use of various teaching methods<br />

d. Teachers are eager to update their knowledge in teaching by taking courses or<br />

seminars<br />

e. Laboratory support (technician and resources) is adequate. Resources can be<br />

shared among different science subjects<br />

2. Weaknesses<br />

a. Students from arts classes are relatively weak in science subjects<br />

b. Students’ enthusiasm for the subject is relatively low<br />

c. Science and Technology subject is a new subject in our school. Much effort is<br />

required for teachers to prepare curriculum materials and explore suitable<br />

pedagogic methods<br />

III. OBJECTIVES<br />

1. to foster active participation of our students in learning and arouse students’ interest<br />

in the subject<br />

2. to develop curriculum materials<br />

3. to improve teaching effectiveness of subject teachers<br />

4. to enhance the communication skills of students<br />
