STUDENT GUIDANCE COMMITTEE<br />

FIVE-YEAR PLAN (2007-2012)<br />

I. AIMS<br />

1. To equip students with the personality traits and abilities of Shatin Tsung-Tsiners<br />

2. To build a team of guidance teachers with professional knowledge in counselling<br />

and guidance<br />

3. To hold preventive and developmental activities, and encourage students to<br />

explore their potential<br />

4. To provide counselling and guidance to students<br />

5. To cultivate students’ sense of belonging to the school and improve<br />

teacher-student relationship<br />

II. SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS<br />

1. Strengths<br />

a. The Committee has a clear target and direction<br />

b. All members in the Committee are concerned about the growth of teenagers.<br />

They are willing to improve themselves through further education so that they<br />

can help with students’ personal growth.<br />

c. Students are kind-hearted and receptive. Under teachers’ guidance, they are<br />

willing to improve themselves<br />

d. The school supports the activities of the Committee<br />

e. The social worker in our school is experienced, willing to serve and helpful<br />

f. The Committee frequently contacts some external organizations so as to get<br />

more resources to implement counselling activities<br />

g. EDB and NGOs have provided the school with numerous valuable teaching<br />

resources<br />

h. The Committee systematically organizes the resources for form teacher periods<br />

and external resources in the guidance resource room<br />

i. Through form guidance programmes, case conference and the year plan,<br />

teachers in school can understand the work of the Committee thoroughly so<br />

they can provide support to the work of the Committee<br />

2. Weaknesses<br />

a. The members of the Committee have a heavy workload and are under severe<br />

stress<br />

b. The leadership skills of students in organizing activities need to be improved<br />

c. Besides handling student cases, the Committee is also responsible for<br />

conducting Life Education which involves a lot of work<br />

d. The work of the Committee has been made difficult because of an undesirable<br />

social culture and individual students’ backgrounds<br />

e. There is a lack of physical space for interviewing students<br />
