The Tarikh-e-Khandan-e-Timuriyah was thought to have been
prepared to help Abul Fazl to write his history of Akbar’s reign,
the Akbar Namah. This work, too, was lavishly illustrated, as
seen in this example of Akbar riding on a black horse and about
to enter Surat.
battles comprise the principal themes of the paintings,
as might be expected of a chronicle of generations
of conquerors and rulers. The manuscript is written in
beautiful bold calligraphy, within coloured and gold-ruled
borders. The paper is of an excellent quality, of a sharp
cream colour and with a slight ivory gloss.
Four pages from the Tarikh-e-Khandan-e-Timuriyah, including
two battle scenes, one of Mughal forces storming a fort, and one
of presents being brought to court.
