‘A view <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> British Army Establishment on <strong>the</strong> Peace in <strong>the</strong><br />

year 1803’, a peace which was short-lived.<br />

beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 19th century, and are linked directly to<br />

events <strong>of</strong> great historical significance: <strong>the</strong> independence<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> United States <strong>of</strong> America and <strong>the</strong> decisive Franco-<br />

Spanish participation in <strong>the</strong> conflict; <strong>the</strong> political life<br />

<strong>of</strong> Tsarist Russia in <strong>the</strong> era <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Empress Ca<strong>the</strong>rine<br />

<strong>the</strong> Great; <strong>the</strong> French Revolution and wars to defend<br />

it; and, last but not least, <strong>the</strong> initial struggle towards<br />

independence in <strong>the</strong> Spanish American colonies. He<br />

kept a wide variety <strong>of</strong> documents and records which<br />

illustrated his efforts to attract world attention to his<br />

cause <strong>of</strong> independence for Spanish America from<br />

Spain. He organized and saved personal and <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />

letters, complete judicial records, notes, and even<br />

revolutionary and military music scores (including an<br />

original score <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Marseillaise) which today constitute<br />

a fundamental primary source to understanding <strong>the</strong>se<br />

processes <strong>of</strong> world importance.<br />

comprise different types <strong>of</strong> documents, manuscripts,
