Streets.<br />

1. No person shall lay down or take up any<br />

water pipe, open any drain or well, or in any way<br />

excavate, break up, or injure the public roads,<br />

footpaths or pavements within the limits of the<br />

Municipality without first obtaining the written<br />

permission of the Municipal authority.<br />

2. The streets of Karavas shall be divided into<br />

four classes as specified in the list made by the<br />

Municipal Council under section 27 of the Municipal<br />

Councils Law of 1885, namelj^:—<br />

The first class shall comprise—<br />

(rt) The Kjnrenia road.<br />

(6) The Quay road.<br />

(c) The Yerankathies road.<br />

The second class shall comprise—<br />

(a) Petroyitonia street from north to south.<br />

(6) Evangelistria Church street.<br />

(c) Exoyitonia street.<br />

{d) Pano5dtonia and Ayia Erini Church street.<br />

(e) Vizadjera street.<br />

The third class shall comprise—<br />

(a) Cemetery street.<br />

(6) Modidhes street.<br />

(c) Vrissi and Vathrikaka street.<br />

(d) Katsouri street.<br />

(e) Ayios Yeorghios Church street.<br />

(/) Mills and Palsea-Vrissi street.<br />

{g) Panoyitonia and EvangeHstria street.<br />

And the fourth class shall comprise all streets<br />

which are not specified in any of the three classes<br />

hereinbefore mentioned.<br />

3. The minimum width of the streets specified<br />

in the above mentioned four classes shall be as<br />

follows :—<br />

1st class . . .. 22 feet.<br />

2nd class .. .. 19 feet.<br />

3rd class .. .. 17 feet.<br />

4th class .. .. 14 feet.<br />

4. Any street the wadth of which is greater than<br />

that prescribed by these Bye-la^vs shall remain in<br />

the same condition as it now is, and in no case<br />

shall any one be allowed to encroach on any part<br />

thereof.<br />

Slaughter House.<br />

1. No animal shall be slaughtered for food<br />

wdthin the limits of the Municipality of Karavas<br />

except at the Municipal slaughter house.<br />

2. No carcass or fresh meat shall be brought<br />

within the limits of the Municipality either for<br />

sale, or to be used for human consumption unless<br />

it has been slaughtered at the Municipal slaughter<br />

house of Karavas, and bears on it, in good and<br />

clear condition, the seal of the Municipal slaughter<br />

house.<br />

3. Any carcass or fresh meat found within the<br />

Municipal limits, which is not proved to have<br />

been slaughtered at the Municipal slaughter<br />

house or' does not bear on it, in good and clear<br />

condition, the seal of the Municipal slaughter<br />

house, may he seized by any slaughter house<br />

official of the Municipality and be destroyed by<br />

order of the Mimicipal authority, and the person<br />

in M'hose possession such meat is found, and the<br />

person who has brought the same within the<br />

Municipal limits, .shall be guilty of a breach of<br />

these Bye-laws.<br />

4. The Municipal authority may authori.se and<br />

depute any person as a slaughter house official<br />

to seize and examine any carcass of fresh meat<br />

Avithin the Municipal limits, and to examine any<br />

vehicle or other receptacle which may reasonably<br />

be suspected of containing any carcass or fresh<br />

meat, and to enter any promises and do all necessary<br />

acts for carrying out these Bye-laws.<br />

5. The Municipal slaughter house shall be open<br />

for the purpose of slaughtering animals each day<br />

from sunrise until mid-day, and may with the<br />

permission of the Inspector of the slaughter house<br />

be open at any other hour or may be kept open<br />

for such longer period as may be required.<br />

6. The control of the Municipal slaughter house<br />

is hereby vested in such person (herein styled the<br />

Inspector of the slaughter house), as shall from<br />

time to time be appointed by the Municipal<br />

authority.<br />

7. The Inspector of the slaughter house shall<br />

enter daily in a special book the names of the<br />

owner and the slaughterer of every animal<br />

slaughtered in the Municipal slaughter house,<br />

the number and description of animals slaijghtered<br />

by each person and the fees paid by each person<br />

in respect of animals .slaughtered in the slaughter<br />

house.<br />

8. The Inspector of the slaughter house shall<br />

give a printed receipt, in the form prescribed by<br />

the Municipal authority, and every pereon paj^ing<br />

the prescribed fees may require the Inspector<br />

to furnish him with such receipt.<br />

9. No carcass of any animal shall be removed,<br />

from the slaughter house until the prescribed fees<br />

shall have been paid for it.<br />

10. No carcass of an animal slaughtered at the<br />

slaughter house shall be removed therefrom until<br />

it has been examined by the Inspector of the<br />

slaughter house, and has been sealed with the<br />

seal of the slaughter house. The Inspector may<br />

detain any carcass which he may deem unfit for<br />

human consumption until the directions of the<br />

Municipal authority have been obtained as to the<br />

disposal thereof.<br />

11. No animal tha*:. is pregnant or unfit foj<br />

human consumption shall be slaughtered at the<br />

slaughter house, and if any such animal shall have<br />

been slaughtered the carcass may be seized and<br />

destroyed and any expenses incurred in respect<br />

of the examination of such carcass or the removal<br />

or destruction thereof shall be paid by the owner<br />

of such animal, or, when he is unknown, by the<br />

person who has slaughtered it.<br />

12. All animals shall be slaughtered and cleaned,<br />

at such place within the slaughter house as shall<br />

be indicated by the Inspector of the slaughter<br />

house.<br />

13. All carcasses shall before they are removed<br />

from the Municipal slaughter house be cleaned<br />

from offal and refuse and such offal and refuse<br />

shall be removed from the slaughter house and<br />

buried by the person slaughtering the animal in<br />

such place as shall be directed by the Inspector<br />

of the slaughter house. .<br />

14. Every person slaughtering an animal within<br />

the slaughter house shall provide himseH with<br />

clean and suitable knives and appliances for this<br />

purpose.<br />

15. The inflation of carcasses by blowing with<br />

the mouth is prohibited.<br />

16. These Bye-laws shall not apply to pigs or<br />

the flesh of pigs and shall be susponde I in respect<br />

of animals slaughtered by the Mohammedans at<br />

the time of the Courban Bairam and by the<br />

Christians at Easter, provided that such animals<br />

are not slaughtered for sale or slaughtered in<br />

khans, factories or other pubhc places but only<br />

on the premises of the owners of the animals or<br />

in places to be fixed by the ^lunicipal authority.<br />

17. The followmg fees shall be paid in respect<br />

of each animal slaughtered in the Municipal<br />

slaughter house ;—<br />

For each ox or cow of any weight .. 25.<br />

For each pig .. 2s.<br />

For each sheep or goat . . . . .. 6cjp.<br />
