A BILL
To AMEND THE LAW RELATING TO MARRIAGE.
BE it enacted by His ExceUency the Governor and
Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Cyprus, with
the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof,
as follows:—
Short title, 1. This Law may be cited as the Marriage (Amendment)
Law, 1925, and shall be read as one with the
Marriage Law, 1922, (hereinafter referred to as the Principal
Law) and the Principal Law and this Law may
together be cited as the Marriage Laws, 1922 and 1925.
Amendment 2. The Principal Law, section 4, shall be amended by
xxxvn, of ^^® deletion of the words *' no step shall be taken to
1922, sec, 4. includc or remove any such minister " and the substitution
therefor of the following words :
" no step shaU be taken to remove any such minister
and a minister for whose inclusion in the register a
requisition as aforesaid has been made shall be provisionally
registered."
Repeal 3. The Principal Law; section 19, is hereby repealed
xxxvn of and the following section substituted therefor :
1922, sec. 19. 19. Where a marriage is celebrated by a registered
minister of persons who are not members of the same
Church, the parties thereto shall within fifteen days of
such celebration of marriage appear before a marriage
officer and effect registration thereof. Any person who,
being a party to such marriage, fails without reasonable
excuse to register a marriage within the period aforesaid
shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding ten pounds,
provided always that the marriage officer shall proceed
to register such marriage in accordance with the Law.
