And whereas by Our Order in Our Privy Council<br />

bearing date the Fifth day of November, 1914, and known<br />

as the Cyprus (Annexation) Order in Council, 1914, the<br />

said Island of Cyprus was annexed to and became part<br />

of Our Dominions :<br />

And whereas by Letters Patent under the Great Seal<br />

of Our United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland,<br />

bearing even date herewith, We have revoked so much<br />

of the above recited Order in Council of the 'Sixth day<br />

of July, 1907, as has not already been revoked and have<br />

constituted ordered and declared that from and after<br />

the coming into operation of the said Letters Patent the<br />

Island of Cj^prus shall be known as the Colony of Cyprus<br />

(therein and hereinafter called the Colony), and that in<br />

place of the High Commissioner and Commander-in-Chief<br />

appointed under the provisions of the above recited Order<br />

in Council of the Sixth day of July, 1907, there shall be<br />

a Governor and Commander-in-Chief (in Our said Letters<br />

Patent and hereinafter called the Governor) in and over<br />

the Colony:<br />

And whereas we have thereby authorised empowered<br />

and commanded the Governor to do and execute all<br />

things that belong to his said Office according to the<br />

tenour of Our said Letters Patent and of any Orders in<br />

Council relating to Cyprus, save in so far as any provision<br />

of any such Order in Council may be repugnant to any<br />

of the provisions of Our said Letters Patent, and of such<br />

Commission as may be issued to him under the Royal<br />

Sign Manual and Signet, and according to such Instructions<br />

as may from time to time be given to him, under the Royal<br />

Sign Manual and Signet, or by Order in Our Privy Council,<br />

or by Us through one of Our Principal Secretaries of<br />

State, and to such laws as are now, or shall hereafter<br />

be, in force in the Colony:<br />

And whereas certain Instructions bearing date the<br />

Ninth day of August, 1907, and certain Additional Instructions<br />

bearing date the Third day of December, 1909,<br />

were issued under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet for<br />

the guidance of the High Commissioner or Officer administering<br />

the Government of the Island of Cyprus :<br />

And whereas We are minded to substitute' fresh<br />

Instructions for the aforesaid Instructions and Additional<br />

Instructions :<br />

Now We do by these Our Instructions under Our Sign<br />

Manual and Signet revoke—as from the date of the coming<br />

into operation of Our above recited Letters Patent bearing<br />

even date herewith—^the aforesaid Instructions and Additional<br />

Instructions but without prejudice to anj^hing<br />

lawfully done thereunder and instead thereof We do<br />

direct and enjoin and declare Our Will and Pleasure as<br />

follows :—<br />

I. The Governor may, whenever he thinks fit, require<br />

any person in the public service of the Colony to take the<br />

Oath of Allegiance, in the form prescribed by the Act<br />

mentioned in the above recited Letters Patent bearing<br />

even date herewith, together with such other Oath or<br />

Oaths as may from time to time be prescribed by any<br />

laws in force in the Colony. The Governor is to administer<br />

such Oaths or to cause them to be administered by some<br />

Pubhc Officer of the Colony.<br />
