And whereas by Our Order in Our Privy Council
bearing date the Fifth day of November, 1914, and known
as the Cyprus (Annexation) Order in Council, 1914, the
said Island of Cyprus was annexed to and became part
of Our Dominions :
And whereas by Letters Patent under the Great Seal
of Our United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland,
bearing even date herewith, We have revoked so much
of the above recited Order in Council of the 'Sixth day
of July, 1907, as has not already been revoked and have
constituted ordered and declared that from and after
the coming into operation of the said Letters Patent the
Island of Cj^prus shall be known as the Colony of Cyprus
(therein and hereinafter called the Colony), and that in
place of the High Commissioner and Commander-in-Chief
appointed under the provisions of the above recited Order
in Council of the Sixth day of July, 1907, there shall be
a Governor and Commander-in-Chief (in Our said Letters
Patent and hereinafter called the Governor) in and over
the Colony:
And whereas we have thereby authorised empowered
and commanded the Governor to do and execute all
things that belong to his said Office according to the
tenour of Our said Letters Patent and of any Orders in
Council relating to Cyprus, save in so far as any provision
of any such Order in Council may be repugnant to any
of the provisions of Our said Letters Patent, and of such
Commission as may be issued to him under the Royal
Sign Manual and Signet, and according to such Instructions
as may from time to time be given to him, under the Royal
Sign Manual and Signet, or by Order in Our Privy Council,
or by Us through one of Our Principal Secretaries of
State, and to such laws as are now, or shall hereafter
be, in force in the Colony:
And whereas certain Instructions bearing date the
Ninth day of August, 1907, and certain Additional Instructions
bearing date the Third day of December, 1909,
were issued under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet for
the guidance of the High Commissioner or Officer administering
the Government of the Island of Cyprus :
And whereas We are minded to substitute' fresh
Instructions for the aforesaid Instructions and Additional
Instructions :
Now We do by these Our Instructions under Our Sign
Manual and Signet revoke—as from the date of the coming
into operation of Our above recited Letters Patent bearing
even date herewith—^the aforesaid Instructions and Additional
Instructions but without prejudice to anj^hing
lawfully done thereunder and instead thereof We do
direct and enjoin and declare Our Will and Pleasure as
follows :—
I. The Governor may, whenever he thinks fit, require
any person in the public service of the Colony to take the
Oath of Allegiance, in the form prescribed by the Act
mentioned in the above recited Letters Patent bearing
even date herewith, together with such other Oath or
Oaths as may from time to time be prescribed by any
laws in force in the Colony. The Governor is to administer
such Oaths or to cause them to be administered by some
Pubhc Officer of the Colony.
