IN exercise of the powers vested in hini by virtue of<br />

the Public Health (Villages) Law, 1892, and with<br />

the advice of the Executive Council, His Excellency<br />

the High Commissioner is pleased to order and it is<br />

hereby ordered thab the above mentioned Law shall be<br />

applied to the village of Kakopetria iii the District of<br />

Nicosia.<br />

Given under the hand and official seal, of the<br />

High Commissioner at Nicosia, this 20th day<br />

of December, 192^4.<br />

IN virtue of the powers in him tested by the<br />

Customs, Excise and RevenueyLaw, 1899, and<br />

the Phylloxera Prevention Law,/l890, arid of all<br />

other powers enabling him inVxhat behalf, and<br />

with the advice of the Exeoative Council, His<br />

Excellency the High. Commiasioner is pleased to<br />

order, and it is hereby orde/red as foUcvvs :<br />

1. Potatoes for seed njflrppses only niay be<br />

imported into Cyprus. Siich importation shall be<br />

through the ports of Faifoagusta or Lamaca only<br />

and shall be in such Quantities and from such<br />

countries only as shaftl be specially authorised<br />

beforehand in writin/ by the Director of Agriculture.<br />

The potatoes shalll be imported direct<br />

from the ooun^a'yyDf origin, provided that the<br />

potatoes may be /ranshipped if they remain in<br />

Customs charge ^o^iile at the transhipping port.<br />

2. Every consignment of potatoes for seed<br />

purposes shall/»e accompanied by the following<br />

-documents, nannely :— .<br />

(1) A Statutory Declaration, in the form of<br />

Schedule X., by the shipper, naming the peace<br />

of origiiy and stating that such potatoes were<br />

not grown in land infected with any of the<br />

diseases referred to in Schedule C. hereof and<br />

such/ther diseases as may be added to such<br />

Schoflule from time to time by notification in<br />

thf/Cyprus Gazette. ' "*'""'<br />

(2) A certificate in the form of Schedule<br />

from the Department of Agriculture or otlifer<br />

equivalent authority of the country from wluch<br />

the potatoes are imported, certif3dng at a^ate<br />

not more than 30 days before the time of<br />

despatch of the consignment that the d/seasea<br />

referred to therein have not been known to exist,<br />

as far as it is aware, within five miles of me place<br />

or places in which the potatoes are deyDlared ta<br />

have been grown.<br />

3. Every consignment of potatoes^ for seed<br />

purposes shall be subject to inspecraon by the<br />

Director of Agriculture or an insp^ting officer<br />

acting on his behalf.<br />

4. If on such inspection as in clause (3) hereof<br />

mentioned the potatoes are founcy to be not free<br />

from disease or should the inspeocing officer have<br />

reason to suspect them of being diseased they may<br />

at the discretion of the Directoy of Agricultiu*e be<br />

ordered to be either :<br />

(1) destroyed by the inoporter or his agent<br />

under the supervision of therinspecting officer, or<br />

(2) subjected to such ^(rocess of disinfection<br />

or treatment as the h ispei3ting officer may<br />

prescribe the expenses )f such, process being<br />

paid by the importer,<br />

(3) re-exported.<br />

Provided always thatAn no case shall compensation<br />

be payable to the/importer in respect of any<br />

loss or damage conse/^uent on any action taken<br />

by the Director of Agricultm'e or any inspecting<br />

officer in accordanc^r with the provisions of thia<br />

section.<br />

5. If a consignment of potatoes for seed purposes^<br />

is unaccompaniecy by the documents in clause (2)<br />

hereof mentioned or if such documents do not<br />

conform to the Schedule of this order an inspection<br />

fee of Is. for evffry half ton or fraction thereof shall<br />

be paid by the ftnporter in respect of any inspection<br />

under the prorisions of clause 3 hereof.<br />

6. Any in^orter who sells or otherwise disposes<br />

of any pota/boes imported by him shall forthwith,<br />

notify the^irector of Agriculture of the nameS;<br />

and reside/ces of the persons to whom the potatoes<br />

have beem sold or disposed of and the quantity<br />

of potatojes so supplied to each person respectively.<br />

7. Orfler in Council No. 928 dated the 27th<br />

day of March, 1923, and pubhshed in the Cyprus<br />

Gazette/, dated the 30th March, 1923, is hereby<br />

cancelled.<br />
