LETTERS PATENT passed under the Great Seal of the United<br />

Kingdom constituting the Office of Governor and Commanderin-Chief<br />

of the Colony of Cyprus and providing for the Government<br />

thereof. "<br />

Dated lOth March, <strong>1925.</strong><br />

George the Fifth, by the Orace of God of the United Kingdom of<br />

Great Britain and Ireland and of the British Dominions beyond<br />

the Seas King, Defender of'the Faith, Emperor of India : To<br />

all to whom these Presents shall come. Greeting.<br />

WHEREAS by an Order of His late Majesty King Edward the<br />

Seventh in Council bearing date the Sixth day of July, 1907, provision<br />

was made for the exercise of the power and jurisdiction<br />

vested by Treaty in His late Majesty in and over the Island of<br />

Cyprus and for the constitution of the Office of High Commissioner<br />

and Commander-in-Chief in and over the said Island :<br />

And whereas by an Order in Our Privy Council bearings date<br />

the Fifth day of November, 1914, and known as the Cyprus<br />

(Annexation) Order in Council, 1914, it was provided that from and<br />

after the date thereof the Island of Cyprus should be annexed to<br />

and form part of Our Dominions, and the said Island was annexed<br />

accordingly :<br />

And whereas by an Order in Our Privy Council bearing date<br />

the Twenty-seventh day of November, 1917, and known as the<br />

Cyprus (Annexation) Amendment Order in Council, 1917, the said<br />

Order in Council of the Fifth day of November, 1914, was amended :<br />

And whereas by an Order in Our Privy Council bearing date<br />

the Thirteenth day of October, 1920, and known as the Cyprus<br />

(Civil List) Order in Council, 1920, No. 2., Clause XXXVI. of the<br />

said Order in Council of the Sixth day of July, 1907, was amended :<br />

And whereas by an Order in Our Privy Council bearing date<br />

the Eleventh day of October, 1923, Clause XIV. of the said Order<br />

in Council of the Sixth day of July, 1907, was revoked:<br />

And whereas by Article 20 of the Treaty of Peace with Turkey<br />

signed at Lausanne on the Twenty-fourth day of July, 1923, Turkey<br />

thereby recognised the annexation of Cyprus proclaimed by the<br />

British Government on the Fifth November, 1914:<br />

And whereas the ratifications of the said Treaty of Peace with<br />

Turkey were duly deposited and the said Treaty came into force<br />

as between the British Empire and-Turkey on the Sixth day of<br />

August, 1924:<br />
