Religious dietary laws<br />

With the exception of the regions of Iran and Central<br />

Asia/CIS, the overwhelm<strong>in</strong>g majority of the surveyed <strong>Muslim</strong>s<br />

avoid certa<strong>in</strong> foods and beverages on religious grounds. In<br />

contrast, very few non-<strong>Muslim</strong>s tailor their eat<strong>in</strong>g behaviour to<br />

religious rules. A similar picture applies here across all regions<br />

of orig<strong>in</strong> (figure 35).
