In the light of the research conducted <strong>in</strong>to friendship<br />

networks, the relatively good network<strong>in</strong>g result<strong>in</strong>g from frequent<br />

contact with the native population among the friends<br />

of migrants from predom<strong>in</strong>antly <strong>Muslim</strong> countries of orig<strong>in</strong> is<br />

surpris<strong>in</strong>g. An analysis by the German Socio-Economic Panel<br />

<strong>in</strong> 2006 revealed that 62 per cent of Turkish <strong>in</strong>terviewees had<br />

no Germans among their three best friends (Haug 2008), for<br />

example, while the <strong>in</strong>tegration survey conducted by the Federal<br />

Institute for Population Research established that 26 percent of<br />

German-born Turks and 36 per cent of Turkish nationals aged
