DİTİB is 59 per cent. About a quarter of the <strong>Muslim</strong>s claim to<br />

know one of the follow<strong>in</strong>g associations: Zentralrat der <strong>Muslim</strong>e<br />

<strong>in</strong> Deutschland (ZMD; Central Council of <strong>Muslim</strong>s <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong>),<br />

Vere<strong>in</strong> islamischer Kulturzentren (VIKZ; Association of <strong>Islam</strong>ic<br />

Cultural Centres), Alevitische Geme<strong>in</strong>de <strong>in</strong> Deutschland (AABF;<br />

Alevi Movement <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong>). Only 16 per cent of all those<br />

questioned had heard of the <strong>Islam</strong>rat für die Bundesrepublik<br />

Deutschland (IRD; Council on <strong>Islam</strong> for the Federal Republic of<br />

<strong>Germany</strong>). Set up as recently as 2007, the Koord<strong>in</strong>ationsrat der<br />

<strong>Muslim</strong>e <strong>in</strong> Deutschland (KRM; Coord<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g Council of <strong>Muslim</strong>s<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong>) was known by only 10 per cent of the <strong>Muslim</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>terviewees.<br />

The <strong>Muslim</strong> associations represented <strong>in</strong> the German Conference<br />

on <strong>Islam</strong> do not represent the majority of <strong>Muslim</strong>s <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Germany</strong>. Of the associations which participate <strong>in</strong> the German<br />

Conference on <strong>Islam</strong>, the DİTİB achieves the highest degree of<br />

representation, with 16 per cent of all <strong>Muslim</strong>s <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong> feel<strong>in</strong>g<br />

that it is represent<strong>in</strong>g their <strong>in</strong>terests. The figure rises to 23<br />

per cent if account is only taken of <strong>Muslim</strong>s with a Turkish migration<br />

background. The Alevi community reaches a comparatively<br />

high degree of representation if observation is restricted<br />

to the actual target group. 19 per cent of the Alevis claim to feel<br />

represented by the Alevi community. One <strong>in</strong> ten <strong>Muslim</strong>s from<br />

Turkey feels represented by the VIKZ. Only 2 per cent of the total<br />

number of <strong>Muslim</strong>s surveyed feel represented by the KRM on<br />

religious issues. (Multiple answers were possible.)<br />

Conclusions for <strong>in</strong>tegration policy<br />

The project results are relevant for policy-mak<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

public adm<strong>in</strong>istration as a basis for precise plann<strong>in</strong>g - for example<br />

<strong>in</strong> terms of mak<strong>in</strong>g pronouncements about the potential
