5.1.2.3 Sources of household <strong>in</strong>come<br />

Wages/salaries are clearly the predom<strong>in</strong>ant source of<br />

household <strong>in</strong>come 69 , apart from among <strong>Muslim</strong>s from Central<br />

Asia/CIS (table 37). Income from self-employed work is slightly<br />

rarer, but quite common. In particular, around half of the non-<br />

<strong>Muslim</strong> migrants from Turkey fall <strong>in</strong>to this category, as well<br />

as migrants from the Middle East and South/Southeast Asia.<br />

Pensions are most relevant among non-<strong>Muslim</strong> migrants from<br />

Southeast Europe and South/Southeast Asia. Unemployment<br />

benefit I is the exception; unemployment benefit II or social<br />

welfare are more prevalent, particularly among <strong>Muslim</strong>s from<br />

Central Asia/CIS, South/Southeast Asia and the Middle East,<br />

as well as among non-<strong>Muslim</strong>s from Iran and the Middle East.<br />

Other transfer payments also represent a relatively important<br />

source of <strong>in</strong>come among some groups of orig<strong>in</strong>.<br />
