38 per cent of <strong>Muslim</strong>s <strong>in</strong>terviewed live <strong>in</strong> an area<br />

where the proportion of foreigners predom<strong>in</strong>ates.<br />

Southeast European <strong>Muslim</strong>s are least likely to live <strong>in</strong> a<br />

district with a large number of foreigners (24 per cent).<br />

Turkish <strong>Muslim</strong>s are most likely to live <strong>in</strong> a residential<br />

area of this type (42 per cent).<br />

More than two thirds of <strong>Muslim</strong>s <strong>in</strong>terviewed feel a<br />

strong or a very strong attachment to their place of<br />

residence.<br />

Almost 70 per cent of <strong>Muslim</strong>s said that they feel a<br />

strong or a very strong attachment to <strong>Germany</strong>. 60 per<br />

cent feel a strong or a very strong attachment to their<br />

country of orig<strong>in</strong>.<br />

36 per cent of <strong>Muslim</strong>s state that they have a stronger<br />

attachment to <strong>Germany</strong> than to their country of orig<strong>in</strong>.<br />

By contrast, 27 per cent feel closer to their country<br />

of orig<strong>in</strong> than to <strong>Germany</strong>. Among <strong>in</strong>terviewees with<br />

a German passport 51 per cent state that they have a<br />

stronger attachment to <strong>Germany</strong> than to their country<br />

of orig<strong>in</strong>. Only one <strong>in</strong> three <strong>in</strong>terviewees with a foreign<br />

passport feels the same.<br />

All <strong>in</strong> all the <strong>in</strong>tensity of contact between people from<br />

<strong>Muslim</strong> countries of orig<strong>in</strong> and people of German orig<strong>in</strong><br />

is very high <strong>in</strong> all areas of everyday life. Contact<br />

with people at the workplace and <strong>in</strong> the neighbourhood<br />

is highest. In almost all groups more than three<br />

quarters of <strong>in</strong>terviewees have frequent contact <strong>in</strong><br />
